I find the ladies watches a bit small Do they do a small gents ? I prefer a leather strap to (nothing to do with watches just saying)
indeed, they've done a few olympic s editions. Personally i quite like the look of the Dark Side of the Moon ones, but the prices are a bit tasty.Omega did do a meteorite dialled watch a few year back that looked mega, can't re all the edition off the top of my head. I've got one of these, and the dial is fabulous, like looking into a pool of oil, bottomless.... https://www.ablogtowatch.com/omega-seamaster-planet-ocean-watch-with-liquidmetal-ceramic-bezel/
then buy a mid size mens watch, you do see a few female tele types wearing Submariners for e.g., and TBH that size watch suits a lady quite well, depending on the ladee. as for leather, well, its a free world.....
Since my dad has gone having the watch he wore everyday gives me a certain connection to him which I really like. With this in mind 20 odd years ago I thought Id get some nice watches for my three sons. So I looked into decent makes and decided it would be nice to have ones that would increase in value. Rolex, while universally acknowledged as being more marketing over substance, fit the bill. Now I have a Sub date stainless GMT master pepsi stainless GMT master bi metal root beer Only the sub was bought brand new and co incidentally each cost about£1750 I had a look on line last night and they seem to be worth upwards of £5000 each now so whatever you think of Rolex quality they do seem a reasonable investment. I wear them all the time (one at a time of course). Saying a cheap watch watch does the same job is like saying a cheap bike does the same job as a Ducati. Its true of course but having worked hard for my" things" there is a satisfaction in having" nice things".
Fella at work started collecting and doing some sideline dealing. He only goes for Rolex. 2 he bought last year for about 6k each he sold for just over 10k each this year. Nice sideline.
After reading PostMaster's criticism above about Rolex, prompts me ask you lot that know, which of the makes do you think is the better made then ?
If I was in the market for a high end watch now it would be Yaeger le coultre Zenith A P I W C Breguet Patek (with lottery win)
Whilst I’m waiting for the pain killers to reduce my hangover headache, I’ve been searching t’internet and found an interesting article comparing the anti/non magnetic performance of the Omega 15000 Gauss and the Rolex Milgauss. The test involved putting both watches on a box containing a rare earth magnet with a field strength of approximately 10000 gauss for 24 hours during which both watches performed flawlessly. Whilst Omega and Rolex approach the problem of magnetic fields differently in the construction of the movement, at the end of the test it was only the article writer’s personal choice that could separate them. Having now looked at the Rolex, I agree the Milgauss is a good looking watch but I prefer the Omega for two reasons, I like arabic numbers on a watch face and the bezel is slightly narrower. Not sure if Rolex offer a strap as an alternative to a bracelet but if they don’t, there are three reasons, I prefer a strap. Strangely, the only other watch I can find that has a high gauss rating is an IWC. Andy
I believe the story of Yamaha is that they made pianos, but had some spare unused space in the Factory they wanted to find a use for. They had a bash at motorbikes hence the 3 tuning forks as the company logo. Urban myth or not, I’d like to think the only reason Elsie sits on my garage is that Mr. Yamaha miscalculated the size of shed he needed to make Richard Clayderman’s favourite instrument.
One thing that is quite noticeable is that my Seamaster in quite a bit more comfortable than my Milgauss on the wrist
Personally Gareth, I think the Omega collection is both better made and have a much more advanced movement.(Although they do mark easily in my experience) But can I stress, this is only my personal opinion as I am not a fan of Rolex watches. I have a Panerai for posh, and think it blows a Rolex away, but my everyday wearer is an Oris Aquis, which takes a beating like no other I have ever owned. It's been worn at my work for over 3 years now and remains virtually unmarked.
When you wear your strap, do you prefer it in leather or material ?? I suspect you prefer a big wide leather strap on eh Andy ??
