Re-valving Std 900ss Showa Shock?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by bikemad, Jan 2, 2018.

  1. Does anybody have any experience with having there rear Showa shock re-valved and a lighter spring installed?
Is it worth doing(cost wise and does it work) or just bite the bullet and buy an Ohlins STX46 or similar to fit?

  2. You don't read much criticism of the damping performance of the rear unit (unlike that of the front forks), so maybe the valving is ok as is. However, getting a new, lighter spring is definitely worthwhile. Had mine rebuilt/resprung by Maxton for a lot less than the cost of an Ohlins, and the difference made it well worth doing - much more complaint and comfortable.

  3. Somebody on the old SS Yahoo group used a s/h Fireblade unit and reckoned it was a huge improvement.
It did need a bit of fettling to make it fit though

  4. I put lighter oil in my forks and it made an enormous difference - the forks actually worked afterwards... :)

  5. I have a Maxton Shock and they rebuilt my forks. Wasnae cheap, but so worth it. My best handling bike and it's set up for me by Maxton. Would highly recommend their products.
