I have everything off the 959 at the moment so was going to try to add as much heat shielding as I can. Basically a lot of silver tape on inside of panels and underside of seat. My question has any one tried wrapping the exhaust loop with glassfibre tape. This should help shouldn't it? Any negatives to this idea as it seems a cheap fix. Regards Steve
Having owned two panigales and ridden them in all weather i can’t ever say I’ve noticed it’s as bad as people say.. I must have a Teflon coated ball bag or something. You can wrap the pipe but there’s been chatter that this doesn’t do the pipe much good. The panigales have been known to crack/sheer that particular pipe anyway... From what I’ve seen people tend to insulate the underside of the seat etc...
I only have 50 miles under my belt on this bike and it was raining so not terrible heat but \I knew it was there. I can imagine it being a problem next time I am at the lights in Spain. What does wrapping do to the pipe? I have seen loads of Harleys with wrapped pipes. Regards Steve
I also haven’t seen it as big a problem as many seem to make it. I think they are just riding too slowly! Yes, the rear headers can definitely shear off. A warranty job, but maybe not if you’ve wrapped it. If you think about it, all of that radiated Heat is helping to cool the motor, so not a bad thing in my books.
Wow I will enquire from dealers. Yeh I suppose it does sound right shedding the heat but an awful lot of people mention the heat build up. Watched the " Missended Flyer" fitting a yank heat shield on his on UTube. Regards Steve
Ive had a 959 and 1299, and other than being stuck in traffic, I really don’t see the problem. So.... I avoid traffic!
Yeah this to be honest. I see it everywhere and I can only think that a lot of people are jumping on the band wagon.. they are warm bikes for sure, warmer than most but then they’re not really designed to be sitting in traffic either. I’ve ridden mine in full leathers in 35 degree + and not had any issues above and beyond what you’d expect with being wrapped in a cow at those temperatures
Wrapping the pipe will reduce the radiated heat from the pipe, that will mean that your leg will not get as hot, that’s because the wrap forms a thermal barrier on the outside of the pipe, a bit like hanging a towel on a radiator at home, it will not increase your engine temperature or cause the pipe to crack, it might be an idea to speak to your dealer first just to be on the safe side ref warranty, but IMO it should have no effect whatsoever on your warranty because wrapping will not effect the mechanical properties of the pipe, looking at the photograph above the failure was most likely caused by HAZ (heat affected zone) where the pipe is made brittle in the viscinity of a weld, or the pipe is under stress when bolted up and repeated heat cycles and vibration caused a crack to develop, or a mixture of the above, I’ve ridden a 1299 and all is well until you get stuck in traffic at which point the heat transfer to the inner thigh is bloody painful!.
Do the guys complaining about heat wear jeans? I only ever wear one piece leathers and I wonder if that is why I don’t seem to notice it being a problem?....
