KTM's TPI direct injection two stroke is already on sale and has passed Euro 4. There'll be road-legal enduros on sale this year. I wonder if the power bands could be retrofitted into my old X7.... THEY were really narrow and I've been told the newer ones are wider.. Q Does anyone know if they are compatible ?
The KTM TPI crossers apparently have a lot more low down torque than their conventional stroker predecessors, they don't tail off as soon and they haven't got the brutal engine braking of the thumpers (a useful advantage in off-roading). But they don't have the manic top-end of road racers. That could be down to how KTM have set them up though. You want instant point and squirt punch for short circuit off-road racing not a screaming top end. The engine sounds like its more tractable and elastic than conventional strokers. And when you fall off them they don't flood and it doesn't take half an hour of cursing a swearing to get the feckers going again. It would be interesting to see how a road racing direct injection v-twin performed.
it is a bit ugly the yellow one. Shame the vid chops about so much you don't get a good look .. But @ 85kg and 80 hp it sounds like fun!
40k could buy 2 TZ250 gp bikes...and plenty of cash left for spares or upgrades. I bought a 2018 ktm 250tpi, tbh there is barely any difference compared to the 2017 model 250 carbed bike, maybe more linear/more traction from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle on mildest map 2. Map 1 is quite aggressive. Done only 6 hours so way too early to comment on reliability...but saving messing around with premix and having to carry a bottle of oil on long rides is already a great advantage.
Green lanes in Kent for now. Going to Transylvania with 5 mates in April for a mild enduro, same place as Enduro Panorama.
