1200 S Slip On Exhaust Compatability

Discussion in 'Monster' started by Davkyt, Jan 11, 2018.

  1. I've seen someone say that the end can/slip on for the 2016 1200R also fits the 2017 1200S....

But, does anyone know if both of the above fits a 2014 1200S?

The reason I ask is because I've seen several exhausts that are advertised as for a 2016 1200S which I would like to put on my 2014 1200S.

  2. I've got a feeling the R has bigger headers than the S, so possibly it won't fit. But someone else may be along shortly to say otherwise.

I've been looking at end cans for my 2016 1200S, so will watch this with interest! I'm currently playing with an Arrow link pipe and some Chinese universal silencer options, although may just end up biting the bullet and getting the Arrow can too.

  3. R has bigger headers. The link pipe is the same for all years of 1200 and 1200S, so yes the 2016 pipe should fit your 2014. The pipe is also the same for 821

  4. Thanks Neil.... Is the attachment point the same on all too?

I came to see you yesterday to show you my new toy and for you to remove another bolt made of cheese..... But you was closed

  5. I believe so, the silencer is the same '14, '15 and '16. Not sure about the '17 year but I can't imagine there being much in it. Most aftermarket us a band anyhow that will move along the silencer.
You could always get a Termi ;)
we was out delivering yesterday afternoon. Sorry we missed you.

  6. Unfortunately I don't have a grand to spend. I think I want a single pipe now anyway. I was looking at getting Silmotor so it matched my other bike. But I've gone off the idea, and my wife inhaled the £700 quid exhaust budget I saved and spent it on Xmas presents. I quite like a Spark one, but it's only listed as for the R, hence this thread.

I'll be popping in to see you the next time I'm out in your working hours. I need to know about servicing for my new bike soI can start to budget. The guy at Nottingham led me to believe that the service are eye-watering compared to my 750.

  7. Remus are worth a look at. I can go thru a few with you when you drop by.
Servicing is straight forward enough....depends where you go ;) Comparable with the 750 in most cases until you rack up the miles. Nothing painful until 18000miles. belts are 5 years.

  8. Finding this thread rather interesting as we have just ordered, today, a new M821 for the wife for her birthday. From what I understand the cat is in the short pipe in front of the can. I assume that if I fit a short pipe in there that costs around £100 it will do away with the cat and I can also fit any end can on that I want.
If I am correct, then what is preventing me just drilling the cat out of that short pipe as fitted as standard?
Hard to see in pictures if I am correct in my assumptions and not sure that I want to wait till the bike arrives at the end of Feb to sort these things out.

  9. If we're talking about the same pipe Bob, the 2-1 section contains the valve. As far as I'm aware, the cat is still housed in the silencers.

  10. I’ve had a USB endoscope style camera inside the exhaust on my 1200S, and there is a catalytic converter disc within the main silencer. You’d have to cut an access hole in the back of the silencer to get at it.

The cheaper option may be to buy an Arrow link pipe (about £80), then find your own silencer - there are many Chinese offerings on eBay at present, although they’re all mostly quite short (ie LOUD!). Don’t ask me how I know...!

  12. I've seen a couple of cans that are advertised as fitting the 821 and 1200.... Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

  13. She likes loud, and as there is no MOT here then she will get away with it.
Looking forward to seeing the options.

  14. I was under that impression too. As it happens I already have an Arrow link pipe, so I'm thinking about buying one of these:

  15. If you are sure the spring tensioner will line up and the pipe bore size is compatible then go for it mate

  16. I'm not sure at all, but worst case is I can get a new spring lug welded on.

  17. I've got my new can fitted - really happy with it. Where's best for photo hosting these days, so I can upload some pics?

  18. In the link that you gave for that it shows it as having a 60mm inlet into the can. I was in the UK last week and measured the pipe a bit further forward, on the 1200 and 821, as 51mm in the Ducati dealer at Abingdon. I assume that the link pipe goes from 51 to 60 then, would that be correct?
Looking forward to the photos, would love to hear the sound.
