The driver's quote at the end.........."He added: 'I don't really want to talk about this - I don't want to broadcast my misfortune" I think he needs to look up 'misfortune' in a dictionary and re-examine how he thinks bad luck applies to this self inflicted event.
Double standards. Courts sentencing for travelling at that speed on UK roads should be consistent regardless of being 2 or 4 wheels. I had thought it was a custodial sentence for that speed but clearly not. Andy
Yep - thats my point and, more to the point he must have had his foot on the floor as he'd hit the limiter....
Wasn't that long ago that they did https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/record-breaking-motorcyclist-jailed-after-9770766
And another... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5301127/Lotus-boss-BANNED-road-speeding-102mph.html
It's the farce that is our judicial system and the bigotry that exists within it, as evidenced by the stark difference in sentences metred out to riders against those given to drivers, often where much lower speeds are concerned than as recorded in this particular case. A blanket approach over an above certain speeds should apply to both two and four wheeled users else there will never be parity between the two.
Thing is the police car had to do 155 to catch him, so if he caught him, they actually do not know his real speed, it could have been way less. I had a similar argument once with a plain clothes police car, him quoting I had to do 120 to catch me, I was overtaking him and a load of other cars as he was driving at 35 in a 60 on a by pass late at night, I might add I did not get prosecuted, as he could not prove my speed.
...wrong on many levels (apart from the obvious that the law was broken).....particularly the faux "outrage" at the speed...which would be a non event had it been on a German Autobahn.......
Chris Tarrant did not get off quite so "lightly": http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-42732004 Both found guilty, but sentencing seems hard to make sense of. I still can't get my head round the fact that one could be punished similarly in Scotland for a level of blood alcohol which would be perfectly legal in England.
Yep....I do agree to a certain extent...we all do stupid speeds now and again...had my z1000 near to the limit on the m4 a couple of yeares back 2am nothing on the road apart from me and my mate...its just the fact if I were caught I'd be sleeping above fletcher....
I would wager that most if not everyone on here owns a bike because they are fast.. the bikes that is... There is a time and place to use that speed . I like to think I know where and when that is. weather its legal or not doesn't bothers me, unless I get caught!
I’ve maxed bikes out numerous times. Always on an empty road with good visibility (as above, think empty motorway). Had the multi at 155 indicated (fully loaded with panniers etc ). My uncle and I were chatting the other night about some of the speeds we hit in Italy (empty motorway again) on the way to Mugello. I topped out my ZX6R and they were pulling away. Only ever had one warning and that was the A12 at 120mph with nothing in front of me when the unmarked car came barrelling up from behind turned his lights on, I slowed down and he just pulled alongside and motioned to slow down. He then went on his way whilst I was still working out wether I was going to bum or be bummed. He obviously didn’t see the issue or deem it that unsafe. There is a time and a place. Bombing it round housing estates is not it. Good visibility empty roads, realistically it’s only you in danger.
I'd completely let him off. Fast Audi driving guitarists are generally fucking great blokes in my experience
