996. I understand that the oem ones are torque-to-yield bolts and therefore shouldn't be re-used. Any problem with using standard high tensile strength ones to hold the basket, or do I have to order elusive TTY ones from Ducati and sell my collection of stuffed dodos to cover the expense?
Where did you get the information that the 8 bolts securing the clutch basket were ‘torque to yield’ ? I’m happy to ask our workshop for you but like Cream_Revenge, I have re-used those bolts on every incarnation of my 748sp, 748R and my 853 track bike. In the dim distant past I think I did once buy new bolts but I don’t remember them being expensive. Do use thread lock or Loctite on them though. Andy
It’s early and I did try and correct my mistake before anyone saw but clearly not quick enough. Apologies Andy
Lotus blossom won't be happy you mixed us up! Lucky for you he's probably knee deep in that amazing build saga of his........
I read it on another Duc forum, so it must be true ;-) Also, there's a big scary Caution comment about replacing them in the workshop manual. And when I hold one up to my ear I can hear it sobbing.
No need to replace. I recall way back when it was suggested they were, but not in recent times. The bolts are 10.8 hi tensile iirc and teh torque value is nowhere near their yield, probably not close to stock 8.8? Clean then and apply thread sealant. Job done
My bike is from "way back when" - it's a 2000! But I do recall re-using the bolts when I did the clutch on my '92 900 and that didn't end in tears.
