Are Ducati A Bit Stingy?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Bob T, Feb 12, 2018.

  1. I have a new Supersport bought from my local (French) dealer. When I collected it last year it came with a full tank of fuel. My wife will be collecting her Monster 821 in the next week or so and it will also come with a full tank of fuel.
Our niece collected her new Monster 821 from Moto Rapido this morning and the tank only contained enough fuel to cover 60 miles or so. Is it normal in the UK that you spend over £10k, inc extras, on a bike and they are so tight that they don't even give you a full tank of fuel?
I would have thought that part of the pre delivery inspection would be to fill the tank.

  2. Every bike I’ve purchased, I’ve been ordered to ride immediately to the nearest petrol station. This is regardless of brand.

Same has always gone with cars we’ve purchased too.

May be just me being paranoid but I’ve had bikes in for work and come away thinking, I’m sure I had a nearly full tank and they only test rode it about 2 miles

  3. It's probably more to do with the dealers, the margins they get on the bike and what they have left in the deal

  4. I suspect it's more that they can't be arsed to take bike's to the petrol station? Although, I'm in moto rapido now for 2 recalls, and there's a filling station at the top of winnal industrial estate? So you may be correct? :(

  5. I suspect my dealer would probably syphon my fuel off into his car.

  6. Thanks chaps. I cannot for the life of me see why a dealer would not spend £25 to try and get a bit of customer satisfaction.
I did think that perhaps it was an oversight!
To be fair, George, the sales chap has been very helpful with her purchase.

  7. But why should they ? Thats 'another' £25 out of their already slim margin, times that by every bike they sell and its a fair chunk of money, and in all honesty when you buy a new home do you expect the house builder to pay your first months Gas & Electric ???

  8. Perhaps they should because they want people to return and get their bikes serviced. I am sure that there is enough profit in a new bike to cover £25, and there certainly would be in a customer who is satisfied with their dealer and goes to him every time for servicing.
Don't really see how the purchase of a house has anything to do do with it, that is just plain stupid.

  9. Its not plain stupid is it ... petrol for 60 or so miles is fine, and if a tank of petrol is the difference between going back or not, I'd suggest they are a nightmare customer, why do people want so much for so little ?? Maybe they should get a solicitor and seek compo for having to fill up so far into ownership.

Dealer sell 250 bikes a year, 250 x 25 = £6,250 ..... thats a good chunk of the rent / rates / salaries that you expect them to 'give away' ...... I'm with the dealers on this one ...

They bought a bike, they didn't buy a bike with a tank of fuel ..... so yes it is the same as the house analogy, you buy house, they have gas & electric turned on, you pay for it .... identical ....

  10. I've never part exchanged a bike with a full tank, often riding more miles just to do so before I hand it in.

  11. I do that ... works both ways, hence I don't expect a tank back ...... took my Hyper back on fumes ..... got a Multi with enough to get the 35 miles home .... job jobbed .....

  14. Probably something and nothing, but one dealer is in the U.K. and the other in France. I wonder if there are certain health and safety differences???

  15. thinking outside the box,nice idea:thinkingface:

  16. No, not at all, just a cultural thing, the expectation here in the UK be it cars or bikes is that a tank of fuel if given is going well above and beyond, and having bought multiple cars / bikes, new and used at quite high value at times I have never had more than half a tank !

  17. I could understand the difference if it was a french made car, they depreciate quicker than the petrol in them, but yeah, it might just be our dealers work to a tighter profit margin or are just cheap tight bastids?

  18. What about a French made bike? Have you seen the price that Voxans are selling for?
But on the other hand have you seen how British made cars depreciate in mainland Europe?

  19. so question for you,are fench ducati more expensive than the uk price? and why so?, as you are nearer to italy than we are!?:upyeah:

  20. It’s down to how tight the dealer is.

I find nettles and wasps to be far more stingy than Ducati.
