Or not as in my case....... Left work early to be in the house for a smart meter installation. They had cancelled the previous appointment at short notice and recheduled for 6 weeks later (today). So I wait in this afternoon only to check my e-mails close to the end of my appointment window, to find this And then this when trying to reschedule again. They even had the cheek to send a text message to my mobile last night, warning me that I would be charged £30 if I was not at home for my appointment. F**KERS!
A colleague of mine had them cancel on him 3 times. In the end he rang them and said he didn't want the smart meter.
They came to do ours only to tell me - you have one of the very first smart electric meters that aren’t very smart - and therefore we can’t change a d you have a very old gas meter that we can’t replace with Try asking again in 12 months as the policy might have changed Wankers
A while back on Martins money tips he said to avoid them, they didn't work in many properties and the fitters had to return on numerous occasions, he said to give it time until they had been tested properly and were more likely to work first time.
I'm tempted to wait until they are compulsary and keep f**king them off, reminding them of how they messed me about this time.
Can't understand why any one would want or need one. You dont need a "smart meter" to tell you what uses the most power, just look at the wattage figure on the rating plate of each appliance - simples!
Don't know Rob. I can find out if you want?? He just rang them and basically told them to shove it (politely of course) as he'd stayed in 3 times for them only to have them cancel at the last minute costing him lost wages/holiday.
Smart meters are being standardised currently in preparation for the madatory new accounts instalation from 2020. If you don't have a smart meter currently, I'd wait for the new generation equipment. These new versions will be compatable with all electricity suppliers unlike the current crop.
May well be, but I just cant stand the way companies feel the need to constantly spy on individuals by whatever means they can. I wont have loyalty cards (clubcard, nectar etc) or anything else that gives out information about me. My life is my business and none of their concern.
Had a phone call from a women who was delighted to offer me the free installation of a smart meter and was most put out when I declined. How am I going to tell what appliance is using most power says she. Simple says I, I’m a bachelor and live on my own says I. Oh says she and hangs up. Not had a phone call since. Andy
Yeah, it'll be the DVD player and TV for your porn, and the fridge for your beer. Maybe the odd powertool in the garage for your bikes. Wimmin, they don't understand.
Yeah, I'm going to tell them to shove it now. Had enough of it. I wasn't even bothered in the 1st place.
I’ve had letters , texts and phone calls for months about free smartmeters, as I see it as just another tool for them to grow their already huge profits and get rid of thousands of staff ( meter readers ) I have politely declined , I told the nice lady that, no thank you very much , I would not like a free smart meter which then causes untold drama with all sorts of problems, only to be sorted in my very precious free time, I told her they can come and fit one if they pay me £250, she was not amused.....
Oddly, that is precisely the figure I had decided on. Everybody ought to say the same: the electric co must pay us £250 for the privilege of snooping on our electricity consumption. And if they fail to keep an appointment, we will invoice them an extra £100 a time.
