Explosion In Leicester. .. Caused By?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by AirCon, Mar 4, 2018.

  1. When I originally saw the damage I thought a limited gas leak and then a random ignition.
I saw the stupid far right claims of a bomb factory. Since most of the neighbouring properties still had glass I was pretty sure that couldn't be right. Sadly I've seen what damage a terrorist bomb does to buildings (Ealing etc).
Then I was wondering..... recent refit of the retail shop downstairs and thought perhaps escaped refrigerant, but way too much damage given the maximum load of 3 to 6kg.

Latest speculation is a basement distillery.
I know a few boys around Southall do this sort of thing, but never thought it could bring a building down?
    Bootleg booze kills 5!

  2. Bootleg booze kills a shit load more people once it's sold I'd imagine.

  3. The ones I know drink it themselves......

  4. They make a good one then....:)

  5. 4th run = boiling a fluid more volatile than petrol

  6. One thing is for certain

Leicestershire police are adept liars and they are not telling the truth

They immediately rule out terrorism yet they still don't know what it was or more likely don't want to alarm the public with facts about what happened

  7. Strange that the ones they've detained/arrested are from all parts of the UK and not Leicester.

  8. My 1st thought was illegaly plumbed into the gas mains ☹☹

  9. True, Leicester police are being guarded about releasing information. Sometimes that is no bad thing in these days of trial by media. I'd rather that than deliberate leaks of misinformation which a number of forces are often guilty of.

That they have charged 3 men with mansluaghter, and they are from around the country, points away from an accidental gas leak, or illegally tapping into the gas supply to bypass the meter IMO.

  10. Gas is at such a low pressure, even coming in from the street, you could stop it with your own breath off the end (widely used low pressure mains) .
Not sure how you could charge all three, "cowboy plumbers flock" together?
May be they are the landlords or owners of the site?

    Ps.
If they did bypass the regulator (drops street pressure to 21mbar) then the gas pressure would eventually push the heavy grease from any gas valves, like those on a cooker or gas hob......
I've done this myself looking for a small leak on a gas hob using OFN.
