1200 DVT Multi Desmo Service

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by David George, Mar 4, 2018.

  1. I bought a Multi 1200S 2013 last August. Was last dealer serviced Feb 2016 at 8,200 miles.
Last owner hardly used so now at 9800 miles.
Enquire about service but dealer says need a Desmo service with timing belts.
Quoted £620.00 which includes £73 for oil and filter!
Value any thoughts on what I ought to have done bearing in mind 5 years old but low mileage.
Has had 4 dealer service since new.
    Cheers

  2. You will probably only get 2 answers here, main dealer or independent as not many choose to do the desmo service themselves. Personally I would choose an independent once out of warranty, but that's only my opinion and I'm sure many others would choose main dealer.
    PS .Welcome to the forum

  3. It doesn’t need the desmo service. That’s 15k miles. It needs an annual plus the belts (5 years)

  4. Or choose Nelly - best of both worlds as an Authorised Ducati Service Centre - not too far to go?

  5. I've been told need brake/clutch fluids and coolant changes?

  6. Brake fluids are 3 years. Coolant is 4. Depends on what the previous services involved tbh. At 5 years old, they should have been done previously

Just reread your first post... the brake fluid would have been due 2016. If last year was missed, then yes, coolant is overdue.

  7. Unless you plan to sell anytime soon, I’d be inclined to do coolant and fluids myself and have a dealer do belts, oil, filter and maybe check and grease the hub while it’s there

  8. Stuff the dealers & the independents & do it yourself. These are basically elastic bands. Talk to a Duke mechanic & if he is honest will tell you the desmo never needs needs touching unless you are a track day fanatic who screams the nuts off continually. The belts are no different to a car. I have done dozens of cars & 4 ducati,s & never had a problem. The trouble is that lots of guys & gals are mad on the image of service history.

  9. I agree Steve, but I was answering suspecting the guy wants it doing as he mentioned what he should have done. :upyeah:

  13. Thanks Nelly. I've been quoted £620 at main dealer although this includes fluid and coolant change which they say needs doing?

  14. I'm in Norwich:)

  15. I'll check with dealer thanks

  16. Cheers Bradders, I'd have thought oil change was straight forward as well?
