I Think Someone's Trying To Steal My Shit Again

  1. A couple of days ago at about 930am I was awoken to loud banging on the door. I was still asleep because I've been on the night shift the last couple of days.

I got down pretty quick and a guy was walking back down the front path already. Looked to be in his 20s, dressed in jeans and a casual shirt, smoking.

He comes to the door and this conversation happens:

Presumed thief: Is this the house with the hole in the roof?
    Me: No
Him: Well you've got a hole in your roof
    Me: What?
Him: You've got a hole in your roof that needs fixing
    Me: What? No
Him (trying to come in): Shall I have a quick look?
    Me: No

I was half asleep and confused so I didn't really put it together immediately, I just wanted him to shut up and go away. Clearly if he was actually looking for another house he would have asked where such and such number was, or said sorry and moved on. I noted a big white van parked opposite the road with someone sat in the driver's seat as well.
It was only a few minutes later after they had left that I realized that the whole thing was strange at best.

Do you think it's worth mentioning it to the police? I don't have any more info than what I've said in this thread. Got burgled about 3 years ago. And a couple of months ago the house 3 doors down got burgled.

  2. Sounds like they were casing the place. I'd mention it to the fuzz as it's obv bollocks

  3. You should of took an image of his face, emailed the local plod. And made sure he hasn't bricked your roof to create the work he so desires.

  7. Report it.

  8. A conman trying to get money for nothing, if you had allowed him to take a look he would have put a ladder up to your roof and after a quick look he would have come down with a piece of rotten lath ( which he has in his pocket) and told you there were broken slates and rotten laths that need urgent attention and could fit you in.
They normaly aim for old people but it's a well known scam, I've had it tried with my parents.

  11. Report him to the police with a description. You may not be the 1st one giving them a call. It may save him getting his parasitic claws into some old lady.

  18. Choke him out on the front lawn if he comes back.

Don’t be soft mate. It’s worth calling the police and telling them but they will honestly do absolutely nothing about it. They’re too busy handing out plasters for people who’ve been offended or catching motorists.
