Spilt Tea On Laptop Keyboard, Now Won't Boot Up

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by CRYSTALJOHN, Apr 1, 2018.

  1. not for the first time, I knocked over a cup of tea on my laptops keyboard this morning.
I immediately turned it upside down to drain the worst away, then removed the keyboard and set about gaining access to the innards by undoing all the case screws.
Removed the hard drive which didn't seem to have got wet (few drops of tea evident but didn't look too bad) dried what I could with a hairdryer, plugged in keyboard and hard drive.
When I switch on I hear it starting to boot but all I get on the screen is a request to Press<F2> to enter setup. When I press F2 nothing's happening!
Would appreciate advice on any further action I could take.
    Laptop is Acer 5332.

  2. My wife knocked an open bottle of water onto my laptop keyboard around three years ago (in the middle of the night) and left it. The laptop was fucked next morning and had to be replaced :(

What happens if you press F2? Looks like you don't even get a chance to go into safe mode.

Coffee is well known to kill laptops and you appear to have already done all worthwhile remedial work to try and rescue the laptop from the tip.

  4. Nothing's

Nothing apparently happening when F2 pressed.
    All appears dry inside.
    Fan is whirring away.
I think the hard drive is turning, it feels slightly warm to the touch.
CPU is hot to the touch.
It was a cup of tea with no sugar, not the deadly coffee,
    Btw!

I know very little about computers, I assume what I can see on the screen is displayed from the Bios. I suppose the hard drive has not booted up yet?

  5. Wish I could help you but I don't have any suggestions. Still the computer whizz kids will are often able to save all your info from the harddrive so hopefully you won't have lost files, pics, music etc.

  6. I'm wondering if it's a keyboard issue that's preventing boot up.
Does the keyboard have to be fully functional to allow bootup?

  9. All up and running now, no idea what I did to make it work apart from repeated attempts to start it and switching it off.
Timely reminder to buy a external hardrive for backup!
