A carbon superleggera is pretty special. For some reason I think gloss carbon fibre looks a little tacky (even though I have gloss BST's) but love matte carbon!
We're all different eh! Now to me, a mat finish looks like someone sprayed it down the garden shed and couldn't be arsed to paint it properly cos their in to much of a rush to ride it.
I think all performance orientated bikes have host of carbon clad options. Each to their own but personally I’m not really a fan, I think it looks a bit naff most of the time. What I really don’t get it carbon effect or wrap... You’re adding an extra layer of weight to your bike but disguising it as a weight saving material..
I like Carbon Fibre and I agree to much of it can make it look like a Gypsy lady wearing her jewellery. I also think its the latest technology thing, I remember back in the 90's when Titanium was the latest fad.
If you want the latest technology thing you should be wrapping it up in this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphene
It's a close one for me. I prefer gloss- but only just, I like satin/matt too. Just ordered some bits and bobs for the V4 and I ummed and ah'd over the gloss/satin choice. The trouble with satin is I think it's more difficult to bring back. If you buff it, it'll turn gloss. And that'll look wank... Queue the satin/gloss debate....
Satin/Gloss: depends on the bike.... Full six stuff: love it For me. I like it but only where its needed. Eg, on my RSV4 (ive got the old pre aprc factory) i wouldnt change the red bit at the front of the tank cos it messes with the colour scheme. I was eyeing up a front mudguard for the zed but the hyper seizing up put a stop to that although ill get one eventually. Got a rear hugger on it so makes sense to match the front. That'll be it for carbon on the zed. If anything the zed has less stuff stuck to it than stock, removed all the kwak tags... No need for any on the Hyper. Theres a carbon tail on it but thats more of a necessity as its part of the aftermarket bodywork/the sc project look. Im more of a less is more type person, dont really go in for stickers (especially motogp numbers) that looks pretty shit IMO....Rossi/marquez etc etc has more talent in his/their little finger than me so why would i put said numbers on my bike...seems pointless... Digressing...yeah, like it, but not too much.
I am faced with the same dilemma. I have a few functional carbon details on the bike and just bought a carbon swingarm cover. I bought it as protection in case I fall. I figured its cheaper to replace a cover than a swingarm but will it be too much as I want a carbon belly pan also. Help!?!?
There certainly is. It's very strong indeed (much stronger than fibre glass) with the correct application and with an excellent strength to weight ratio, a bit like titanium. Trouble is it's expensive, there are cheaper alternatives.
Viewed head on from the front my Superduke has too much black plastic. Its great from every other angle but the front is overwhelmed with placciness. Unfortunately I can't see that their mat carbon is much of an improvement eve if the offending parts were available in carbon. I'd rather more of these utilitarian black plastic parts were painted to match the rest of the bike, as they would have been in the days of classic tinware. Bikes are definitely too blacked out these days and it looks bloody awful when it gets dirty too. Cost cutting I guess. I fitted the Lieb Speed carbon belt covers to my Streetfighter for the same reason. The off-side of the engine was just too black and dingy without some shiny relief. Expensive for a farkle though.
A material so widely faked, it’s becone like a Rolex. Continues to be bloody expensive, I suspect it’s a labour intensive process, someone on here will know why.
