SHE'S ALIVE!!!! (well, she starts, no nasty red warning lights, no smoke, revs to 10k rpm and only normal noises for a 30k mls 18 yr old bike)
Just running with fresh oil and new filter. Dropped the new oil through the wife's strainer/sieve thingy and fairly clean, no bits but oil is a little....murky, due to mixing with the very murky old oil i think. Put it back in and ran a bit more on tick over, will keep doing this and checking the sump. Ordering new clutch now.
So far, nothing, just oil and filter and cleaned it all out. New clutch now ordered. There was a recall on the basket going BOOM under hard acceleration but I'm not sure it was that. I'm wondering if the springs were over-torqued and it could have caused failure under hard load. One of the posts may have gone leading to more work for the others, eventually they all go when being chased down by the Cookster.
PS, think I may get away without a new case, will test with the new clutch, if not it's only another £30. So far it's been £30 for oil and filter, £20 in new rubber seals for strainer and oil pressure valve and £55 for a new clutch. If I get away with another £30 for oil/filter I'll take that, and I've learn't some about the internal workings of an IL4 with wet clutch.
Finally shifted the timing bolt!!! Clutch reinstated, 6th gear with wheels on floor, my weigh on rear brake, 500m500mm breaker bar.....nothing. 750mm breaker bar......nothing. Bertha did the job
Just because the bolt isn't supposed to be particularly tight. Didn't want to do more damage than good so built up to it. Was very 50/50 if I was just going to leave it.
Probably, but I've only ever used it on high torque nuts like clutch centre and front sprocket so was a tad nervous on a 14mm nut only supposed to be at 59nm.
59Nm on a little 14mm Nut is similar to or even greater than 200Nm on a bigger nut in terms of stickion Vs surface area engaged... a little shock is better when stuck
