1200 Dtc & Abs Lights

  1. Evening all, looking for some advice. The ABS light have come on along with the DTC warning light. I’ve looked at a few threads and there’s various causes been highlighted as the problem.

Given I’m no mechanic I took the bike to my local Duc dealer. Their verdict today was a faulty dash, £750 plus labour so about £1,000 all told for a replacement dash. Anyway this problem wasn’t highlighted in any of the threads about ABS and the DTC lights showing. So have they got it wrong ?

  2. I've no real practical advice, but good luck with that. I was wondering, given that the dealer should have checked for fault codes and presumably found none, would that mean the DTC and ABS sensors are probably still working? I may be wrong in that the dash could have some sort of executive role in the systems, but if not you could still ride the bike safely until you've had a second opinion or saved up some cash. Actually, even without ABS and DTC working you can still ride the bike OK. I grew up with neither of those safety features and learned to twist the throttle and brake safely to avoid skidding. And BSB race bikes don't have ABS or TC and they still go like stink.

  3. ABS and DTC share the sensor on the front wheel. I would be surprised if the dealer didn’t check that the sensor was working. I had a similar issue but it was my fault, refitted the front wheel the wrong way round o_O. Andy

  4. If the ABS and DTC warnings are both on but the speedo works it is usually the front sensor, if the speedo doesn't work either then it's the rear sensor. I'm surprised that that have come up with a dash fault but I guess it's certainly possible.

  5. That’s why I posted the question, no mention of a faulty dash as the cause of the problem, lots of mentions about the sensor, wiring problems etc but not one mention of s faulty dash. Second opinion maybe required.

  6. Yep the bike rides fine without them. They’ve rarely showed they’ve been engaged, a few bits of gravel has got the DTC going but that’s about it.

  7. I had my dash replaced (under warranty) and I could swear it was an ABS/DTC fault that i took it in with. I also had the tell tail glow/flicker from some of warning lights.

I have also had problems with the front sensor wiring being stretched which was an easy diy repair.

I'd want proof that it's the dash and not a sensor before I forked out that sort of money though. I have the ability to read the front and rear sensor signal on the CANBUS but unless you where anywhere near West London that won't be much use to you.

  8. I'd certainly be looking for a second opinion before spending that amount of cash.

  9. Mate I had the same issue. Does yours re-set after the bike has been off only to come on again later? If so I reckon its the abs connector plug on the front fork. If you look closely when you turn the steering to full lock you'll see it pulling the connection tight. I think this results in one or two things: 1. the connectors is levered apart just enough to break the circuit; or 2. it breaks the thin wires just up from the connector. Mine was the former. Me and mate isolated it by first stripping back the black protective covering on the wires and then gently stretching them to see if there were any breakages (the bike is running after it has 'reset' ie the lights are off and if the stretching/manipulating of the wires causes the lights to come on you have a broken wire). If no breakage, gently pull up on the male part of the connector and see if that causes the lights to come on. We found there was plenty of wire to be able to pull down to take pressure off and we also got rid of the ridiculous "double back" those crazy Italians put in the wire! Thus far all has been good.....but that was only a month ago!!

  10. Thanks for the reply - That’s exactly what it does, the fault lights come back on after I’ve gone about 50 to 100 yards. However, the garage are positive it’s the dash they say they’ve checked the wiring and have seen the “stretched” problem before but it’s not that. I’ll have to check like you suggested.

  11. Is your ''garage' a Ducati dealer? The DDA diagnostic software should be able to verify the integrity of the ABS sensors and read any logged faults related to them

  12. Hi It’s a Ducati dealer and service centre

  13. You'd think they know what they're doing then. I'd still try to get a 2nd opinion

  14. Yes, I’m sure they know what they’re doing but £1,000 for a new dash inc labour is a lot of cash. Love the bike but I might have to let it go once it’s fixed. It’s costing me a fortune. Not sure if the later models have less problems. I love the 2016 PP but I need to check reliability before making any change.
