Scrambler Clutch Bite Point

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Gary-B, May 5, 2018.

  1. I have noticed my clutch bites very late on the lever, it is a stretch for the hand.
Is there a way to make it bite earlier without slackening the cable, after market leavers possibly ?

  2. Take it to your dealer and get them to adjust it for you. Because if you do it you could just get it wrong and can’t get the gear in neutral again. Or so a “friend” told me :p

    Takes all of 30 seconds.

  3. The clutch lever on the Scrambler does seem to be a bit of a stretch tbh, not a problem with my “spade” hands but I can see it being annoying for people with smaller hands, have you tried turning the adjuster on the lever, check that you have 2 to 3mm of free movement on the lever before it starts to disengage the clutch, you can see the gap between the lever and the boss in my photo, I’m gently pulling the lever and at the point you see in the photo I can feel the cable beginning to pull on the clutch mechanism, at the engine end check that the cable isn’t pulling tight on the actuator lever, you should be able to feel free play where the cable nipple holder is riveted to the actuator lever, not flapping about loose but definitely not tight, if you haven’t made any previous adjustments though I think you might find it’s correct/normal the way it is.

  4. Aftermarket levers can cause problems, but do get it checked by your dealer. I had a complete clutch / basket replaced under warranty @ 3000 miles as was experiencing similar and then the clutch slipped under load.

(BTW: the Evotech Performance levers don't cause problems - they're properly engineered and are adjustable for span. I had some on mine, but span adjustment wasn't an issue. I swapped back to the standard levers as I didn't enjoy the very square profile of the Evotech's. They're sat in the garage gathering dust - if you're interested PM me.)
