Bad Workmanship....

  1. Looking at that oil it's the same as what came out of mine when I replaced blown seals after 15k
I would ask wether they actually did anything at all to your forks just kept them for a week or whatever and charged you for the privilege
Could the seals you took out have been the originals which have been superseded by the new ones you now have
    What exactly was the rebuild?

  2. Again, name and shame Andy, you've been had. ..

  3. Yes they were stripped - I can say that as the inner fork tubes were reversed where they were fading....so yeah - they did do that...im gonna have a word first I think...see what happens, if I get any static then the name goes up...I think its fair that they get the chance to hold their hands up …..I think that's pretty fair, after all I assumed the washers were missing but they weren't (probably as I was concentrating on the seals being blown)

Anyway - its all back together now so I feel comfortable riding it the way I would want to at the IOM.

  4. Sorry you’ve lost me. Reversed? If you mean outer fork tubes then spin?

  5. Inner fork tubes ie the chromed bit (the lower bit) at the front about 3 inches or so from the bottom the gold finish was wearing away and more of a silver finish. They were turned around so that worn part was at the back...

  6. Just got my forks back a couple of weeks ago. I had them serviced at reactive suspension, york. ( top bloke, www.reactivesuspension.com)
I was asking about having the titanium nitride coating re-done on one of the forks as it’s worn off in part. He was saying the coating is very hit and miss on the ohlins, depending where they were made origionally!

  7. Still not sure what’s worn, as I wouldn’t think splitting the fork leg (nitride bit) from the calliper mount would be a regular service action on forks.

  8. On mine, the area where the fork seal rubs. But only in one spot, so could be turned to inside. Out of view.

  9. Without stripping forks simply by spinning when not clamped in place?

  10. Name em mate, they probably don't read a ducati forum anyway and you could be saving other folk grief, time and money.

  11. Yes, i presumed so. How is the caliper carrier ( proper name?) held onto nitride part?
I just whipped forks off for the service and took them up complete.

  12. If the coating on the fork slider is worn it will /can destroy fork seals very easily, also if the fork oil was emptied out and fresh oil used without cleaning the innards then the oil will be stinking in a few miles.....not sure if this is possible if the seals were replaced though....

  13. Never tried to get the fork bottoms off, they certainly don’t just slip off ime

  14. I read it as they were just turned around so the gold part that had faded on the front, was now facing towards the engine and what used to face the engine still had a better gold coating visible so was now facing the front, unless I've misunderstood that?

  15. Thats also how i read it.
Just watched a video on removing fork bottoms. Looks a fookin pain. They’re screwed on.....tight! (Maybe locktited aswell)
So i don’t see how you can just spin the nitrided tube 180 degrees?

  16. I'll get a pic...although the coating has faded it's not changed the surface so I'm confident they won't damage the seals...

I'll see if I can get a pic...

  17. That’s what I thought, and not part of a regular strip afaik. That tends to be tops off, springs out, valves checked, new oil and put back together.

  18. Couldnt get a decent pic this morning in the garage - too dark....anyway. Its all back together. Its restored a bit of confidence in my own work. Its just that i couldnt for the life of me get the front end to feel right and at that point i started to question my own work. On the plus side when we went out monday it felt really good (blown seal aside). It was nice and if anyone could verify the more i pushed it the more compliant it became (ie smoother - im assuming when its set up correctly this is how it feels). Im hoping with the fresh oil in there it should be better again...pissing down this morning so in the car to work...boo
