Anyone have this problem , when I put the key in and turn it on the pump doesn't prime so turn the key off & on off & on till it finally primes . I have changed the 2 big black relays under the seat , changed the starter relay ( solenoid ) and its still happening anyone any idea
Yeah that one was changed aswel anyother ideas lads and lassies the fucking thing has a mind of its own
Have you been out on it in the rain lately and have you still got your 'void' tape (or any other waterproof tape) over the rubber bung on your ECU? I had a 748 that got drenched on a trip back from Manchester and first symptoms of a waterlogged ECU were an intermittent pump prime.. it had about a quarter of a pint of water in it.
I have this problem well over a year (or 2) but it now seems to be getting worse and doing my head in , I had a problem with my ecu a year or 2 ago and ended up getting a used one from eBay and can't remember if I had this starting problem before the fitting of the ecu , I'll have a look at the ecu
just to clarify - if the ECU has the rubber bung fitted but with no tape generously covering the whole bung, it will definitely take on water.
The thing is it never gets taken out in the rain and I can't remember if I had this problem before I put in the new ecu (used eBay one) but I was thinking it could be the ecu . I'll have a look at the ecu today
i would look to strt to eliminate or isolate big chunks in order to track down the issue.... Why not by pass the ignition switch and see if that cures it..........its easy to do just follow the wires that come out fom the ignition switch they will go down to a white four block connector. With a length of wire connect the top two on the loom side to "switch on" If the fuel pump primes every time then you have an issue with the ignition switch..........if it doesnt and the fault continues then you can look further........
^ ditto for killswitch as contacts can also play up particularly when damp/wintertime. Apart from relays and switches there are so many ignition related junctions that could cause similar symptoms that it might be worth methodically going through the lot looking for tell-tale signs of green or black discoloration on connector spades etc.
When you switch the ignition on and the pump does not prime do the other ancillarys work I.e. lights and indicators.
Sorry folks I didn't get to look at the bike today was out with the family , this problem happens all year round wet or dry . I got the bike back from my mechanic on Saturday after getting the belts done he had a look at this problem a few months ago and couldn't find anything so he looked again this time when doing the belts by checking wires, relays ect and we already disconnected the alarm . He tried the bike everyday when it was in his garage and it primed and started so picked it up Saturday and went for a spin happy days till I needed petrol and yes it wouldn't start :frown: then after 5 min of trying it primed and started and yes when I turn it on and it doesn't prime everything else works . Thanks for all the ideas lads I gotta get this sorted its doing me head in
i would even lift the tank and have a little look at the fuel pump connection.its only a ten min job.
I had a look at the fuel pump last summer when fitting a new fuel level sensor and all looked ok but I'm gonna have another look
