Speeding At The Tt

  1. Dont worry its not another thread about banging on about speeding blah blah blah.... Got to the bottom of the mountain the other day and while we were having tea and cake at the Creg we got chatting to the copper that happened to be on duty there. Now i thought that (and i had heard) that if you got knicked over there for speeding the points transferred to your licence (last time i got knicked i just got a hefty fine and no points). Turns out its not the case.

The copper told us that if you get pinched over there from now on they create a "Ghost licence" for you, and that in turn has room for 12 points "a la uk licence" however - if you do exceed the 12 points then the ban over there does transfer to the licence over here.

Just thought id put that up as if you only go to the TT once a year it does give you a bit of legal "wiggle room" if you do get caught out.

  2. Maybe this is to put the willies up you to pay attention about their highway road laws:thinkingface:

  3. Not really sure what the tone is there....i didnt give any information in regard to what happened to me....it was quite a few years back and i didnt mind really too much when it happened (and of course youve never broken any speed limit anywhere have you?) - it was more of an informational post and nothing more.

  4. I was Not being rude to you,i just thought it was a polite warning from the copper that's all:upyeah:

  5. Ah - ok - my apologies....the written word always seems/sounds a bit more harsh...

  6. No - in fact he said it the way i did....he was really nice and explained it in a very above board way....in fact i would say if you only ever go there once a year then its pretty lenient. If you manage to exceed 12 points in 3 years being there only 2 weeks of the year then you really are asking for it!! :)

  8. I would say in admittance that this year we stuck to the speed limits 99.9% of the time...one thing i will say is that it would seem the entire police force was round the track and the north of the island. We were staying in one of the southern most ports and on the "shoulder road"... the newly laid coastal road and the south as a whole there were no police atall....we spent a good few hours on that...

  9. Just for the record i got caught by one of them hiding behind a bush with a handheld gun leaving one of the villages...up ahead i saw the 50 so started to accelerate but was in a 30 (and the sign was covered by part of someones garden) so got a 45 in a 30 which from recollection cost me 200 quid at the time....wife was not happy...

  10. Ouch..........in the dog house again:(

  11. Yarp - then i was. Surprisingly this stint she's been ok....although ill probably get it in the neck on the weekend as it (RSV4) needs a total strip down, clean and service as when we left Bristol we got caught in torrential rain and then a week of riding in hot weather the front is caked in bugs and all sorts....to my eyes it looks like its just done a Paris-Dakar as i keep it usually spanking clean....

  12. If we ride them, we have to clean them...have fun:upyeah:

  13. Yeah - ive gotta be honest....maintenance is almost as much fun (to me) as riding them. Ive never really been given anything in life so tend to look after stuff as ive had to work to get it (like most of us on here) and that in turn brings its own satisfaction. I do IT based shenanigans for a job so mechanical stuff is therapy to me....
