An experienced Ducati mechanic for (almost) free

  1. Hi All.

My very good friend Bernard Favre wants to learn English.

Bernard is the ex-owner of Ducati Favre, one of Switzerland's foremost Ducati dealers. When I say one of the foremost, he has won several Swiss Superbike championships with Ducati and at least one with Kawasaki. He was the guy who prepared the bikes, including the motors which were factory ones directly from Ducati. What he doesn't know about Ducatis is barely worth knowing. His nickname here is "Le Sorcier" - The Magician. He also prepared the Supermono which won the garage the Swiss Sound of Singles championship back in the day. I have never taken my bike anywhere else over the last 25 years.

Bernard is 60 now and retired, but he still goes to the garage every day to tinker with Ducatis. He is ludicrously fit, as he is also a cycling fanatic - apparently first up the Mont Ventoux again this year with his mates. He is also very fast around a track (and has done the hospital time to prove it).

He sold his garage to his mechanics as he had had a enough of dealing with customers. What he really likes is spannering (and all the other things that go with fettling Ducatis).

I have known Bernard for over 20 years. He brings a typically Swiss work ethic to his mechanicing. Everything has to be perfect.

Now in his retirement, he is learning English (which I suspect is very rudimentary). He thinks he needs to spend time in England to make progress. So what he proposes is to come to England and work as a mechanic in exchange for board and lodging. He isn't interested in being paid, only in surviving decently. He'd make a great live in guest. He thinks a month or two would be great.

So if you are interested in having a world-class Ducati mechanic in your business or maybe doing a project with you, let me know by PM. He is not your average grease monkey.

  2. Try Alec at Ducati ProTeam, he sounds very similar in his work ethic and Alec has built a race motor or two in his time ;-)

  3. Thanks for the heads-up, Nick.

  4. Funnily enough, I thought of Al, too. I've sent him a link to this thread.
