Rode into my garage and left bike on side stand, measured the chain and it was 42mm approx from rear frame. Put bike on main stand and removed wheels for powder coating, see pics in the section above, measured chain where the bike stood just over 42mm. Adjusted chain easy enough to 40mm. Replaced wheels in the correct way and rolled bike out of the garage for pictures, started it up in Touring mode, switched to enduro mode, all good, went for a squirt up the road, we live in a dead end so no traffic hassles with no lid on, ride back into garage, put on side stand, measured chain 40mm. Guess I shall leave it and see.
My procedure Ride to dealers Hand keys to service manager Have a coffee and general lust over the new bikes Get keys back from service manager and pay the bill Ride home the long way It works for me
Is the correct answer, but while I planned to have the wheels off I decided to tinkle. And tinkle I did.
Could it be feasible that folk may want to adjust their chain more than just at service time?? PS. OP, your method sounds good
Or are you saying you go to the dealer just to have your chain adjusted.....surely not, no one does that do they?
Of course I don't go to just have the chain adjusted I go for a free coffee and to look at the bikes I am perfectly capable of adjusting the chain I just don't want to
