Out for a blast to Wales on Sunday the Monster ground to a halt soon after an orange lamp illuminated on the dash. Had a look at it today - battery is flat. Alternator is kicking out expected voltages on all phases. The regulator impedance input to output varies across the wiring combinations, so I am guessing a new regulator is required. Has anyone had similar experience on a Monster? Does anyone have a regulator for sale - 540.4.011.1C?
My Monster decided to kill the Mobatt just after I bought it. Theres lots on the internet about the reg/ rec being well known as crap but I couldn't really say if thats true. Still I changed mine for a MOSFET on the reccomendation of several people. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the excellent feedback. On the part numbers: The S4RS parts manual gives 540.4.026.1A for the regulator, which has been superseded by part number 540.4.011.1C. This latest device is manufactured by Shingden. I cannot find any information regarding the technology - SCR or MOSFET - not yet anyway. Regards, Malcolm.
Just to note, i put a shindegen mosfet reg/rectifier on the S4Rs a few years ago, along with a shorai battery. The way the thick wires come out of the mosfet unit mean’t i had to re- shape the plastic oil breather canister unit for clearance. I cut it down and bonded together. On hols at minute so can’t get u a piccie.
