Yes, the media got a bit excited towards the end as opposed to the beginning. But who have been miles better than England in this World Cup? No one that’s who. The big guns- Germany? Brazil? Argentina? Spain? Portugal? Holland and Italy didn’t even make it. On the balance of play and from what I watched, England have a bright future. People say Croatia were a better side. But it was 1-1 after 90 and if England were a bit more clinical in their finishing, they’d have pissed it.
Good point. With a half decent striker, we’d have been 3 up after 30 minutes. And that’s what I mean about average team: no one is world class in it. And I get some say Kane is, bit on this showing (other than calm pentaly taking and holding the ball up front) he is well off of that statement. Croatia have several world class players.
That's the point Mary, they don't have finishing as such. How many goals did England score in open play during the whole tournament ?? It was all set pieces or penalties as far as I recall, cause they have no playmaker or finisher. Harry Kane looked a right cart horse in the last game. Personally, I thought Brazil looked the best of the tournament but even they set the bar real low, the play across the board was disappointing as far as I could see, and even through beer/wine soaked eyes, I don't recall a single game I'd look back on with a bit of wow !! I've seen championship sides that looked better than our lot, and if thats the standard of international footy, think I'll stick with MotoGP. That's the first footy I've watched in near 20 years, and tbh, won't be bothering again. (Yeah, that'll learn em !! )
Spain v Portugal at the beginning was good. It was the best game I watched. Ronaldo played a blinder.

van basten could beat any England team skipping on one leg lol, all by himself too if needed, he was absolutely every defenders biggest nightmare, other then trying to kick him into hospital, there was simply nothing stopping him, one of world greatest ( as you all know of course)
