What Tool To Hold Camshaft Tensioner Pulley 'nut' For 848

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by CRYSTALJOHN, Jul 13, 2018.

  1. what tool do you use to hold the camshaft tensioner pulley 'nut' still whilst tightening the 12mm Fuji nut?
My 749s had a hexagonal nut (22mm iirc) which could be held still with the jaws of spanner, but the 848 has 3 holes. I suppose I could jam my circlip pliers or long nose pliers in the holes, but possibly i'm missing something?

  2. John,
    What do you mean?
Do you mean the belt tension adjuster locknut on the vertical cylinder?
I have a cunningly modified box spanner to hold it still while torquing the nut.

  3. camshaft tensioner 848.jpg I mean the adjuster locknut thingy, which, on my 749s was a conventional hexagonal shape, on the 848 it's completely different, a surreal 'Dadaesque' mainly circular thick washer thingy which sits in the center of the pulley underneath the 12mm locknut, with 3 holes in it.
Don't know if there's a special tool to hold it.
Wtf wrong with a hex nut ffs.
    Will show you tmw.
Don't remember having this issue on your 1098.

  10. It doesn’t need a lot of tension , I’ve used circlip pliers before

  13. I think I will be able to do it with some long nosed pliers. The horizontal cyl is very straightforward, no problems there, I've just been investigating the vertical cyl, Looks possible, the O.D of my 1/2" drive socket is a little too large to allow the jaws of my pliers unhindered access, and my 12mm 1/4" drive socket had decided to hide from me so I need to buy another. long nose.JPG
