I damaged my dashboard in an accident and want to install motogadget motoscope now. However, I was told that it wouldn't start because of the immobiliser. Does anyone have a different dash installed and how did you go about your immobiliser?
What bike? Most modern Ducati’s like 1198 can have thr immobiliser flashed out of the ecu iirc. Old ones like gen 1 multi, 620 monster cant: key must match the transponder in the clocks.
Speak to someone who flashes ecu. As above, chrisw knows his stuff. Or BSD Peterborough (I think), Cornerspeed Nottingham, CJS Bristol, there are loads.
Excuse my silly question, I'm not particularly technical. When you say flashed out immobiliser from ECU, do you mean that your bike no longer have immobiliser? I kinda want to keep immobiliser, but wondering whether it can be either placed somewhere else in the bike rather than dashboard (in case I'd get not a stock dash) or if it isn't possible can I remove it altogether and if I'd buy myself a different immobiliser, would I be able to install it and start my bike?
It *may* be possible to flash a new transponder to the ECU to allow your dash to work. You really need an expert @antonye may be able to help, but he's living it up at WDW right now
Of course! Loan bike, flights, drink, fuel, hotels, food, excursions and expenses paid for... out of my own pocket! Great to see you haven’t changed Andy!
You actually miss the point once again of what i am trying to make. You honestly saying you never went to any special meeting or event aimed at the privileged few chairman and alacadoos associated with these clubs? WDW events says... "DOC (Desmo Owners Club) As with every edition, the 266 clubs (Desmo Owners Clubs) provide an international dimension and infuse a strong sense of belonging to the community. Boasting more than 35,913 members in 59 countries around the world, the DOCs are a key component of the Ducati universe." Can you truly say that the DSC or the DOC represents the ducati community within the UK? Go on what percentage of the UK ducati owners are member of the DSC or DOC? How many of the 35913 are in the UK and how does that membership of 'clubs' like DSC/DOC truly reflect the Ducati riders and community? It doesn't In fact it is such an out of date way of doing business you could even Blame Ducati HQ if they truly believe these clubs are a key component of the Ducati Universe.....certainly not in the Uk. I wonder of all those who attended the two recent Ducati UK run track days, what percentage of attendees were current members of either of these Clubs and did Ducati UK have any requirement for it? Its not the way of the Ducati world anymore...
Of course I have been to events that are arranged only for certain members (eg Chairman or President) of management teams from clubs but normally they have been not just a “jolly” but with the intention of having a meeting for a specific reason. To give some examples, I was at the World Presidents Meeting at San Marino the day before WDW started and we had a very posh dinner square which was attended by the majority of Presidents from around the world and some Ducati staff including Domenicali (he arrived on his MS Pikes Peak and didn’t stay long!) but we’d spent the previous two hours in a lecture hall listening to a talk about the Ducati sales figures, company growth, DOC growth, future plans, etc. All very dry and boring stuff that you would expect from a “company” do. Similarly I’ve an entire day in a “workshop” talking about our club, listening to other presidents talk about their clubs, listening to Ducati talk about the DOC system, doing role play and bubble diagrams of how we would like Ducati to interact between us Clubs and dealers. We (club presidents) have also become a free marketing tool as we’ve spent a whole day riding the same piece of road over and over again to allow their marketing team to get various shots from different angles and fly drones and so on. You also don’t see the hours that I personally put into writing a club magazine, maintaining an internet presence on web/Facebook/Twitter, packing, labelling and stamping magazines and taking them to the post office, doing the same packing, labelling, stamping for DOC kits and taking them to the post office, dealing with member’s issues (sometimes with some great results!) and general other issues. I pay for this out of my own pocket first and then claim it back from the club, and I get zero payment/expenses/compensation for all of it. In fact the club still owes me about £600 as we’ve had issues with our bank account that I still need to sort out. In fact, the recent WPM cost me €950 to attend plus £280 flights plus beer and fuel money over 10 days. But that pales into comparison of the money I lost as a contractor by not working, so not only did I pay to go but lost a large chunk of money while I was on “holiday” too! This is not a “woe is me” post, but to put into perspective that sometimes the great people at the Ducati Clubs dept go out of their way to say thank you to us club presidents, as they appreciate the unseen and unpaid work that we do on their behalf. (Contd)
No we don’t. We represent the members of our Club. I’m not going to force anyone to join our club and I hope that the benefits that they get (monetary, opportunities and friendship) speak for themselves. I would love for more members to join our club, and for more of the existing members to participate more and to share some of the amazing experiences that I have had as a member (yes, I even pay my £25pa fee!) but that is their decision and not mine. Ducati too would love to have more members in the clubs because for them it’s all about data capture and feedback to help them grow the business and improve. They do listen to us (as mentioned above) but that doesn’t mean that anyone who isn’t a member gets ignored. The UK club presidents (as there’s 4 of us) have often talked about doing a similar event to WDW in the UK as we’ve all had truly positive experiences feom our time in the clubs, and want to encourage others to experience the same. We, the clubs, are ultimately all a part of the same DOC family and have the same goals, so as much as the few minority idiots like to think we all hate each other, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
All DOC members were offered discount on the track days, just as they are on various other official Ducati events. As I said previously, Ducati (factory) believe that DOC works for them otherwise they wouldn’t put time and money into it. Until they close the DOC system, we will still be privileged to be part of that system. Even when/if it closes there will still be clubs. Some people get it, some people don’t. I know which category you’re in Andy!
I’d already had a conversation with Masha over email via another route shortly after the original post.
