Wanted - Streetfighter 848

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Triple7, Jul 28, 2018.

  1. Hi all, my very first post on the forum after doing a bit of research and lurking about.

But I'm looking for a clean Streetfighter 848 ideally in red (it is a Ducati after all) , I've trawled through the threads about 848 vs 1098 and although I'm potentially open to a nice 1098, I think the 848 is spot on for what I'm after.

    Cheers!

  3. Haha thanks guys, I did actually see that one on eBay first then again on here. If it was an 848 I 100% would take it but just a bit unsure being a 1098, mainly as insurance and costs are a fair bit more.

Have also read all sorts of stuff about the 848 being a bit more fun/chuckable in the Twisties due to the slightly different geo. Although I'm sure the 1098 is an absolute riot! If the guy was closer I'd be tempted to go have a look just to compare!

I've come from owning Street triple R's and Daytonas so handling for me is high up on the list, not to say I'm Rossi or that the 1098 isn't capable as my talent will run out well before I even scrape the surface of what that bike can do.

  4. It will go up in value much more than the 848 - false economy to by an 848 over this low mileage example... the throttle goes both ways dude, don't be timid o_O

  5. Haha are you working on commission ;) ? You are making a compelling case tbf! And that one FS is lovely, just makes it a stretch with the extra cost of insurance...I am.tempted though!

  6. Buy the 1098. :upyeah:

  7. Not on commission, never met the geezer - I just know stuff :eyes:

  8. welcome triple:upyeah:buy whatever makes you happy:)

  9. Thanks man, haha tbh I'm not sure anymore, I think both bikes will make me happy, just trying to figure what will make me happiest!

  10. As probably above, check out the one for sale at 7k. Looks pretty good value.

  11. 100% Go for the 1098, Not saying the 848 isnt a stonking bike but the little extra on insurance will be well worth it, The big SF is unbelievably light feeling and bloody flickable in the twistys, Defo more fun than its wee brother

  12. FWIW and at the moment in the minority:( I've had a couple of 848's & 1098 sports bikes in the past but eventually bought an 848 S/F and it's brilliant!

Being a wimp, I found the 1098 could be a bit intimidating and I loved the grunt, whereas the 11 degree Testastretta motor in the 848 is a gem! pulls cleanly and smoothly from below 3K no power surge just smooth power and with a Q/S even more enjoyable:) With the standard gearing and Termis they are certainly quick enough up to 110 for me, but I've always enjoyed wringing a smaller motor whether road or track!

Handling is confidence inspiring, and unlike the 1098 doesn't get an upset front end when cracking it open. Suspension is OK ish, an Ohlins rear has certainly smoothed it out.

The standard bars seem to have a strange downward droop but change them for a Rizoma and you have a flatter position on the bars!

I'm in ampshire so if you want a chat or looksee feel free to PM

  13. Awesome mate thanks for your input, definitely all food for thought. At the mo it seems like there's more votes in favour of the 1098, would be nice to test ride one for comparison just to see if all the differences are as noticeable as a lot of people say!

Where abouts in Hampshire are you dude?? I'm just in aldershot....aldershit*

  14. If you're a talented hooligan and want real grunt, go for the 1098:D if you're a lesser mortal then less can be more!

Very much depends on your riding style and experience in my view!

If you start with the 1098 your sorted - buy an 848 then pull be looking for a 1098 next summer - we have both :yum

  16. Many will talk about ‘the throttle hoes both ways’ and ‘you’ll only wish you had bought the bigger bike’.

I have had 2 848’s, never a 1*98. Fastest I have ever ridden on the road was an 848. Most fun is very likley 848. If you like using all the performance, and riding something where you have to work a bit to get it really shifting, have an 848 imho.

Plus less seem to have engine issues :)

  17. Totally understand bradders comments and said the same when I got the 1098 if you want push it - really try and ring its neck the 848 you can have just as if not more fun with out warp speed - but I wouldn’t swap my 1098 for the 848 now

  18. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to comment and offer their experiences, unfortunately I'm still just as confused as before between the 2, I know I want a street fighter...just gotta decide between 250cc's difference lol.

I know in reality I'll be happy with either but just wanna make sure I buy the right one for me.
