What are the routine services for the 939? 1-Oil change milage? 2-Certain mileage services? Any other services recommended ?
oil changes id say every 2 -3k what i tend to do.... Certain mileage services: Valve checks are the only critical thing as far as i know....i enjoy maintenance so usually get round to most stuff by cleaning...brake fluid changes, air filter cleanouts, chain tension checks etc etc...
Cant say when the valve change is on a 939...longer than an 1100 i do know that though...again i would say yes on the synthetic - i put fully synthetic in my 1100
Since I don't have the bike yet ,I have no idea.. I am just trying to find out about this now from this forum since you guys are the experts with this bike. Sometimes manuals are not updated as they should be. This has been my experience with previous dirt bikes I owned. Sorry for being a bit clueless on this, but like I said, I trust you guys here. Most of what I read here is really good information. Thank you for your time..
Sorry E.T. the guy doesnt have the bike yet, admits he's not up to speed and wants a bit of help and advice....couple of simple questions that take 2 seconds to answer (yes, he could probably find those answers ill grant you that) but, im the helpful type... so im not too sure what your angle is...
Like I said before, sorry , I am new this type of bike and am trying to get informed before I get it. I do appreciate those who took the time to help. I will read the manual for more information..
s'ok - doesnt bother me. Ill be a little bit limited on the help as ive got an older 1100...a lot of it is common sense....sometimes there's little things that you learn from people that actually own them....sometimes you get conflicting information re dry clutches and how to service and look after them (something you dont have to worry about) so at that point ill weigh it all up and make my own decision but its nice to have all the options in front of you...the choice they say is yours...
I’m feeling slightly intolerant today so please forgive me................but I sometimes find it incredible that some people ask simple questions that can be answered very quickly indeed by googling. I also find it strange that for some reason Google doesn’t seem to work for Americans or in America. I find this all the time in work. I may have to use google for the answer I think.
Happens....i spend my days helping people, from all over the world, so im used to it.....i think some times when your new to something sometimes its nice when you hear the answer to your "actual" question...im the same to a certain extent... Plus, its nice to get started and make conversation....
Manufacturer checks frequency, Valve clearance check: 18,000 miles Oil change: 6,000 miles Minor stuff like chain clean and adjustment, tyre pressure, fluids level check, general cleaning... I personally try doing it every weekend (fortnightly at most) as I daily drive mine. E.T. I get what you mean. Some of the stuff takes 2sec to find through Google, which can make the question a bit frustrating. But then again, I'm with comfysofa in that if you know the answer and have 2 minutes to reply, it nice for the thread starter and many others will probably find it useful in the future.
Clearance check interval is nice....i think mines something like 8k (but my engine is currently being rebuilt so its something that i wont have to worry about for a good while. To the OP: I would still say change the oil every 3k (thats just me though) and depending on how you ride it (and if you like maintenance) some people dont/and are not that way inclined, then you wont have an issue. Keep the thing cleaned and service stuff in relation to how you ride the bike...ie if your a heavy front brake user/like endo's and stuff like that...pay more attention to your front brakes/forks, oil etc etc...that kind of thing. If you like burning tyres out/wheelies, pay more attention to the chain set, keep it well oiled...if its doing a lot of track days id say have the valves checked way before 18k. Ive got an rsv4 factory and most of the lads on the af1 forum ignore the valve check intervals and do them every 2 to 3k (and alot of them find that they are out) - official service schedule is 6k. You get the idea...
You guy's are awesome. Like someone said, it is better to hear it from the guy's who are ridding these bikes rather than some google search that will vary depending on the search.. Thank you guy's.
Interesting how some change the oil at 3000, while other wait the 7500 miles. With synthetic, some recommend 6000, kind of like a car. I guess it depends on the type of ridding one does. In my case, it would be more highway steady speeds, occasional mountain roads. I would probably feel comfortable with nothing more than 6000, just my opinion.
Well...in my case part of it is down to mechanical sympathy....I've got a stahlbus sump bolt fitted to mine....literally no tools needed for an oil change...
