Battery Problems Again...

  1. Hi all Ducatisti . My 2016 Multistrada Dvt started with battery problems. It went in for a service . I replaced battery before it went for service . Stood at the dealer for 3 weeks . They phoned me and said the battery dowsnt hold its charge so i told them to bring the bike back to me . I put it on the Ducati trickle charger . When i start the bike it idles for about 1 minute and then the following happens.
    1. Gear display shows no gear
    2. N light, dwc , mode light flickers
    3. Engine light stays on .
    Returned battery for new one but does exactly the same .
    So replaced with motobatt battery and still does the same . 3 batteries later ....pls help ...
     
  2. I’m no electrical expert but it sounds like output from the alternator isn’t getting to the battery. Usual culprit is the rectifyer/regulator which is not a big problem but it could be the alternator. Do you have a digital volt meter ? With the engine running, put the DVM across the battery terminals, you should see something like 13.75V to 14.25V from tickover to 2500rpm. If you don’t, it’ll be one or the other.   3. Would a lack of output from the charging system not show up on the dash display?

  4. Thanks guys . If you go into the menu of the bike the info shows that its charging correctly as per specs but will see with the dvm tonight when im home. Will keep you updated. Have a good one.

  6. Conversion should have gone like:
    Dealer - battery wont hold charge, its flat
    Customer - oh, it has a recent one on there too, last one did the same
    Dealer - sounds unusual to go quickly, when was that?
    Customer - in the last 12 months and I do top up on a trickle too
    Dealer - ok, sounds like =could be a draw somewhere or not charging properly, Would you like us to have a look?
    Customer - while you're there, that would be great

    short interlude of few hours, customer phone rings..
    Dealer - we have found the reg/rec isnt opting enough charge in, so needs replacing. Cost is £xxx. We need to order the part, its quite a simple job, we can fit or have delivered to you and you can. What would you like to do?
    Customer...etc etc

  7. Hi went home , took bike
    Hi guys i went home took bike of trickle charger started it and measured with dvm and its got a constant charge of 14.33v.
    Bike idled 1 min and the fault is back . Lights flashing etc etc
