I was amazed my old vwub did an old car 600 the other week from 70-130 ish (on the same private road everyone else is on). It’s noth8mg like as quick as modern cars, but I love the sound of it quick shifting thru the gears up at te top on full gas
This vid from last week at the Nordschleife is a perfect example of car vs bikes. The guy on the Diavel was obviously a very good rider and knew his way around the Ring but just couldn't run the corner speed I could run in the car. He was way faster on the straights but parked up in the corners.
Nice! Got past a well ridden Diavel recently bottom of Sutton Bank down hill section (ahem), North Yorkshire, he was not best pleased, but his pursuit was short lived. GS1200 rules...sort of. But I know the road well.
I was up near Doncaster the other week on my Honda Cub (but it's the C90 version not the poxy 50), and there was some dude in his Automatic Black 997 Turbo, and I absolutely fucked him up every straight, and then he failed to catch my rather blistering pace (on my Avon Speedmasters) through any of the corners. A victory for the "L" plated biker I feel. Feck you Porch boy !!
I have beaten bikes in my car, tbh some cars are very fast, and most corner really well now days, but then you have to take in account that lots of bikes are fast / very fast, but it is how fast the rider / or car driver wants to ride / drive it, or can ride / drive it, so it is a hard comparison.
Saw a lovely new M5 Sport with the carbon roof etc, utterly wreck itself. We were on bikes. Not racing but he was going slower than us. One mate overtook him and he saw that as game on. Couple of corners later he’d spun it into an iron fence and opened it up like a sardine can. Rims were smashed to pieces from the kerb too. Said he thought he’d have a bit of fun with us
No idea why. My old 520 diesel could stay with any bike on an open road to 120 regarding handling. Many a Weds eve chasing down the A32 on bike night trying to get home quick.
If it was the M5 F10 you can boost them to the moon and they can be a VERY fast car. In a straight line. They handle like a super market trolley, particularly when you boost them north of 650hp. As chummy boy found out. Oooops...
I'll tell you what... Went to see a mate in Belfast a few weeks back and he's got a 330d sport. Fekk me that thing was torquey! Very fast car and surprised me hugely with its relentless drive from low down. The engines a bleedin masterpiece! And he's stuck a 316 badge on it just to break hearts and shatter dreams during traffic light GP
Clearly ran out of talent. Car was brand new, said he’d only popped out for some milk (was panicking about what to tell his missus). He’d obviously put his foot to the floor coming out of the slow (35mph) left hander onto a straight and got it out of shape. Woman in the lane coming towards him said he just started spinning and bounced off the railing and back across the road in front of here. She had to immediately light a fag and calm down.
Oh dear oh dear. I'm afraid that's what a rush of blood can do... If you're gonna play- concentrate. And keep it safe... ish...
I had a 335d Beemer and that was a torque monster. You could have fun with most bikes out there on average twisties, if it got very twisty then I think I could have gotten past most of them, but didn't risk it as you simply don't know the ability, or ball size of the rider. You had no idea what line they may take and so better not to risk anything. On the flip side I have been overtaken by many a car, as I am not really a fast rider and am fully aware of my mortality and love of my kids/grandkids. Stuart
The advance a bike has is to easily use all the road, and in safety. Tougher for a car to do that ime. I used to hang with a cop who did it all the time in the car, hated it tbh. Unless driving (or riding) fast enough to need all entry and exit of your lane, there is no real need to use the opposite kerb imho. It scares on coming traffic
