916 Red-bull Replica Query

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by doogalman, Dec 22, 2015.

  1. Did the factory do the Red-bull replica or was it a Moto-cinelli thing??
Was it based on a 916 or 996 model??
What spec were the motors, sps or stock??
Were they fitted with any Ohlins suspension and or Steering damper??
Were they fitted with a number plaque on the top yoke??
    What wheels were fitted??

A friend has aquired what appears to be one and a half Red-bull bikes in bits but i seem to remember that there was a few bodykits painted up to mimic the real replica, so gonna see if any of the stuff he has is genuine or not. Not gonna get to see it till mid january so doing some homework now.

  2. We did not had them here in Belgium,so don't think it was something from Ducati itself.
Could be something from your importer.

    Henk!!!

  3. Agree with Steve... Pretty sure they were at best maybe a dealer paint job special. Seen a couple of 916's in the past that were both painted by dream machine, but nothing 'officially' special.

  4. Sounds like i am wrong, just that it's all long time ago nowadays, and the grey matter is a bit murky.
I was thinking there was some sort of proper replica, but happy to be wrong. Will have to wait till i get access to the bike and a half and then decide if it is an sps or not as it's a rolling chassis and two engines, one an sps and one of unknown at this stage. Will get the vin number checked aswell.

  5. A certain @antonye who was an administrator of the Ducati Sporting Club web site in 2004, pointed a similar question at a forum member called Desmondo who confirmed that 20 996sps were made to celebrate John Reynold's BSB victory. What the post doesn't confirm is if it was done by Ducati UK. The bikes were numbered and the tank signed by John. Hope this helps. Andy

  7. I think there was a replica in the UK.
The orange bikes with the INS livery,No?

    Henk!!!

  8. Hodgson replica

  9. 1. UK importer only - it was Ducati UK by then
    2. 996
    3. Stock
    4. No
    5. Not that I remember
    6. Marchesini 5-spokes, in gold, as per the S model

It should come with a certificate as there were only 20 made.
In reality it was only a paint-job so they're really not worth anything much more over a standard bike.

  10. Agree with pretty much all that except it being Ducati Uk it was still importers Moto Cinelli as DUK wouldn't have fitted Silmotor silencers

  11. I know that the Foggy 996SPS reps were Moto Cinelli, and they had a plaque and all sorts of extras, but the Red Bull (and Hodgson INS) came after this so I was sure it was DUK, but maybe not!

  12. Thanks guys, will see what it is mid january when a van is turning up with box loads of bits and a rolling chassis. It'll either be a stock bike with sprayed panels, and a spare sps motor. Or a full sps with a spare motor. or a stripped red bull and a spare sps motor. Or just a load of random stuff that may or not make up some good or not. Considering the friend got the lot for only 2K, i't should be interesting. Will post pics.

  13. Hi all, sorry to reopen this thread, did this Redbull bike turn out to be genuine?

  14. Forgot all about this and apologies for nor updating.
Right, it turned out to be a french registerd 1997 biposto. But the sps motor was good and so ended up in the bike with the ally subframe and ecu

It has since been to the island for the tt and other than a few minor gremlins is still going well.

  15. Further up this tread Antonye said that they had standard motors and suspension, is that correct?
The one i’m looking at has Silmoto exhausts and Marcol Moto / Redbull decals, appears to be one of 20.

  16. Not sure if DUC UK or Reve Racing did the replica's - deffo not factory. This is an original RS996 from 2001 so I would think the reps would have used Micron Exhausts too - someone must know about these

  17. Too rare to price by previous sales - but not much more than standard as they are not official bikes. Same as the Airwaves 999 bikes - they are worth no more than a standard (but the graphics / paint design isn't liked by many) the Red Bull may be a little more popular I guess though.

  18. Interesting topic.
Is there a consolidated list somewhere of all such "limited edition" replicas that would have been made over the years?

I like the look of that blue red bull RS, a nice different vibe from the 90's red factory bikes.

  19. Doubt it, as they are all somewhat spurious due to not being official factory bikes
