748 Low Clutch Pressure In Higher Gears

  1. Hi
my bike has an Oberon Master Cylinder, at a recent track day when accelerating flat out from 2nd it was almost coming back to the bars in 4th 5th and 6th. normal acceleration there is pressure.
Tonight it almost had nothing left when selecting 6th when gunning it through the gears. But again fine when backed off a minute later.
The fluid is very dark, so do you think it just needs bleeding? or as suggested on another facebook page its the bearing on the pressure plate sending heat to the master cylinder?

p.s. it was fantastic round Cadwell Park !

    TIA

  2. No loss of fluid though ?

  3. Clutch pushrod may need regreasing. It could be getting slightly stuck in the clutch bearing.
Take the clutch pressure plate off and pull the rod out. Lightly smear the rod on each end and around the two o rings with grease. Make sure the little bearing and seal in the clutch drum are clean and dab a bit of grease on there too. Also check the bearing in the clutch pressure plate rotates freely.

  4. If the pushrod is spinning, producing friction at the slave cylinder and there is water contamination in the fluid, could it be that the water in the fluid is boiling at high revs, thus causing the lack of pressure at the lever?

  5. FWIW, it goes back to normal pressure minutes later when changing gear at a more sedate speed

  6. It may only drag on the rod at higher load/revs.
I suggest you take a look and see if it helps.

  7. Cheers

do I just unbolt the master cylinder? and lube with what?
    ta

  8. No. Other side of bike (RHS looking forward).
Under the clutch cover and under the pressure plate.
    I use moly grease....lightly.
I suggest you get a manual if you are unfamiliar with this.

  9. ok , special tools or does the pressure plate just unbolt?
    cheers

  10. Just unbolts. 6 allen head screws.

  11. Make sure you put it back on as it came off, there is only one way it fit's.

  12. Cast-in triangular arrow to the post with a slot in the top.
Also, when putting the bolts back in, just gently nip them up.
The springs will stop them undoing and you can easily strip the alloy threads.
