916 Race Bikes Extras

  1. Was it possible to get the addional parts used by the race models, what did they have in addition to the road model

Looks like a rear mounted breather, front brake ducting, lcd screen

  2. Yes.

A lot of these parts can still be sourced from the right contacts, and some are being manufactured new too!

  3. Some of the race bikes were almost different bikes; albeit sticking to the homologation rules. I recall that the 748RS may have had a wider frame to enable a bigger air-box.

  4. Ducati Performance catalogue from back in the day here; https://www.4shared.com/s/fpjpw14P7da

Certainly most parts NLA, at least from Ducati but there are aftermarket versions of many plus used stuff knocking around.

  5. Damn.. those early Fogarty '94-95 race bikes still are the most beautiful bikes ever made to me

Ok that being said from what I recall those factory verions were just completely different bikes from the road versions, with almost no common parts at all besides a couple minor stuff like the brake/clutch fluid plastic reservoirs...
That does not mean you can't upgrade the road versions with some of the Corsa parts indeed.

  6. A lot of parts were ducati performance parts, big monies though.

  7. Because those bikes were really 'silhouette' racers, nothing fits easily onto the road bikes. For example I fitted the big breather box under the rear, which required moving the ecu to the front of the bike. This needed new carbon seat support, and fairing support with the RS dash. Fitting these meant finding an RS water header tank, and so it goes on. Lots of stuff is available, but some of the prices are ridiculous.

  10. Is it just the angle or did they have a larger rear wheel

  11. They are Ducati Corse Magnesium Race Wheels - different to the road Ducati Magnesium wheels which were available at the time. Rare as rocking horse poo...

    I have a set :innocent:

  12. What were the specifics of those Race wheels VS the road versions?

  13. Visually? No ribs in the u section of the spokes. I guess overall they were lighter, but don’t know for sure...

  14. Ok thanks I was not aware of aesthetic differences between road magnesium wheels and the race versions. I'd have to find examples and train my eyes :)

Otherwise weren't there any dimensional differences?

  15. As far as I am aware they are the same - I can check at the weekend as I have road mag wheels on my 998 but I think they are the same - not sure if the Corse race wheels came in different widths however...

  16. So the choice is between ribbed or non-ribbed?

  17. wernt the race wheels just chromated and not painted?

  18. They were 16.5" instead of the 17" road version and had larger mounting holes for the larger axles.

  19. They did 17" as mine are
There's a set on a race 916 upstairs at Pro Twins - @XH558 might check what they are  I saw they were un ribbed.

Out of interest when did 16.5" wheels first appear?
