Portimao - Nl - 7-9th September 2018

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by J0n3s, Aug 8, 2018.

  1. Turn 9, right hander up the hill and Turn 15 double right hander before the short back straight before last corner were the ones I struggled with.

    I love turns 1,2&3

  3. For fellas who say you were inconsistent in lines and struggling with parts, you seem to be front end of fast group pace there

  4. I was asked to move up.
    Which was nice.

  5. Agreed. The video I posted shows me sitting it up out wide on the kerb out of the last left (still somehow managing a 2m4s lap). The apex is on a crest and I found it hard to have the confidence to throw it on its side and trust it would grip going over the apex. Just didn’t have a good feeling. Similarly the sequence of rights to finish the lap I am sure there is another 10+mph in, but that feeling of the track falling away in the first of them made me think it would be easy to go beyond the available grip.

  6. I had booked the lower group as it was the only one available at the time. On day one I had done a 2.07 at lunchtime and was given the option of moving into the middle or top group as 2.07 put me middle of the top group.

I said I would move one group at a time. At the end of day 2 I checked the times as I had not been overtaken all day.
I was doing 2.05 and that was the cut off for the fast group so I would have been one of the slowest in it.

The quick guys were doing 1.54s I think.

  7. Yeah - fast group was FAST!

  8. I was definitely in the slower half of the Fast group doing 2m05’s, but not far off the pace. Because it is quite a big circuit (length and width), you felt like you had the circuit to yourself most of the time in the fast group, whereas in the slower groups you probably found quite a lot of traffic? To put it another way, even if you went out with someone who was capable of 1m54 (the Simon Crafar vid on a GSX-R1000 below is a 1m52s, so I doubt many go faster than that!), it would take them 12 laps to lap you, which is more than you could do in a session. I really enjoyed the place.

  9. Is it a good first Euro track? Sounds a bit tricky.

  10. Tricky to nail, but not tricky to get round. A bit like Cadwell on the scale of Silverstone. I would say it would be a great place to go for a first Euro.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  11. I'd also heard it was good for the wife to hang out round the town during the day which increases the chance of me getting a Euro trip greatly........

  12. I'm going to book the top group when I go back next year as I need someone to follow to learn from and get a tow.

  13. I took my OH. She was quite happy to be on her own back at the hotel pool/beach which makes it easier for me going forward.

  14. Its big, wide, undulating. Decent facilities.

Can be a bit wet either side of summer...we went late Sept IIRC (may have been very early Oct) and was fine, but 1000 starts it was still only 10 deg ish

  15. WAGS at the beach/pool/hotel. Chaps at the track...

  17. I was my first European trackday, about 5 years ago, and didn't really like it then TBH, went again in 2016, had a massive off, still didn't like it, and returned this year and it was EPIC!

  18. There is also a pool between the pits and the restaurant, but I didn’t really see many using it.
