Server is £1068 a year. Server Management is £240 a year Xenforo Software is £106 a year Xenforo Theme addons and subscription is £228 a year Custom work when things go wrong around £500 a year Daily Backups with Amazon S3 approx £450 a year + Other shite that I've forgotten Thats to keep the site live. That is not including any time (or equipment) invested by Terry or myself, that's literally to keep the site online. The site needs to be migrated to the latest version of Xenforo (version 2). That's going to cost approx £1k with all the custom work. Ads help pay for the above. As does the £5 yearly subscription (which is massively appreciated). Ad blockers are available if you really want... And thanks to everyone that makes this place the best bike site on the planet... that's invaluable.
So basically £3K to £5K to keep the lights on... and lots of free hours.... Like I said before £5 or £15 is a bargain..... especially with Exige, Roborano, Ron and many others for entertainment.. the joke page and random picture thread alone are worth much more than that... forget the technical and bike stuff.... Good Job ALL that support and Run and Manage the site... and the posters too....
Yes. The server is shared with the my other bike forums, but this is by far the lions share in terms of traffic, bandwidth, storage, etc etc...
Thanks Rob for taking the time and showing the intricate workings and figures that go to running a forum of this size. Question is now you've seen it written down, are you going to come to your senses and invest your time and money more wisely?
Wow... You could sell the position of moderator. ... say £200 a week.... It would like a fantasy position of that of a football manager or owning your own island .... all that power.....
It’s actually a lot Cheaper than I thought to run Then obviously minus the man Hours. Very interesting insight thanks
@Mac just pay the fecking subscription to lose the ads and stop wingeing. It’s not much. How much do you pay for a pint in the pub? And where does that end up? This forum provides significantly more pleasure and enjoyment for significantly less money and apart from the actual hard/software costs of running it there’s the time invested by the administrators/moderators in keeping us all in line. If you enjoy the forum contribute to it. Don’t be a tight arse and expect it all to be ad free for nothing. Just my personal opinion.
how much would it cost if i where to only purchase the Crap and DQ functions? would the cost vary depending on how many i put on ignore?
I think @finm should pay at least £10, given he's using twice as much bandwidth as the rest of us.....
