1198 Full Exhaust Or Parts Of Standard Exhaust System

Discussion in 'Wanted' started by Dirty Leeds, Nov 26, 2018.

  1. as above looking at changing full 70mm system for standard or at least up to the end cans standard probably need standard Ecu, not in a great rush just thought I’d see if anyone has bits etc

  2. Is there a difference between the OEM 1098 and 1198 systems?

  3. Not sure but I thought so, 848 and 1098 share a lot but thought 1198 had some differences.

  4. Had some advice that full system might be a bit much for me, I’m gonna be steady away in the midrange rather than top end, shitting myself already

  5. The manifold stud spaces are wider on the 1198, so has to be 1198 pipes unless you want to slot the holes of an 848 / 1098 system.
I have a set of 1198 pipes and an ecu to suit slip on race cans for sale.

  6. The bike I’m getting has a full system 70mm so presume has the race Ecu, I’m looking at keeping the end cans (termis) with standard pipework, just been advised off someone on here I’d be more suited that way, presume the end cans mate with standard pipework, it’s early stages and just started searching but how much is your system? Ta

  7. You need link pipes to connect the race cans to a standard system, if the bike has been set up properly with the 70mm system ideally you would need a different ecu map to suit stand pipes/ race cans.

  8. Cool, so what price are you looking at for standard pipes, Ecu? Link pipes

  9. I'd ride the bike before you throw money at it. The mid range power/torque gain from a 70mm system is not huge. Andy

  10. Fair comment, more a case of looking at how much things might cost but yes maybe nothing needs changing, I’m probably not high on confidence so thinking an 1198 with possibly more oomph is a tad daunting, I’m going to get off road riding and flat track in preparation and hopefully be ready next year, a fella on here who had an 1198 with a system mentioned it’s better with just slip on termis as it’s less top end which made sense, but ultimately you are right just try it, but no harm doing some spadework getting an idea of cost if I want to chang3 to standard, trouble is I have nothing to compare it with only the 848

  11. I don't have any link pipes at the moment.
As per the reply above I would give it a go as it is before changing things.

  12. If you think about this logically the ECU that really matters when you are on a bike is the one that fits above your shoulders
It's connected to your right hand and tells you how far to turn that twist grip
F you calibrate that ECU when you first start riding the bike to do it gently you will enjoy your experience and vey quickly will be happy hat you kept your full 70mm system

  13. @I'm closing in as mentioned mate its not going to make that much difference to you (no offence intended), not at the speed your going to ride, if its been set up properly theres less to go wrong as it gets rid of the flapper valve which can stick.

  14. From my experience a full system makes the bike a lot smoother running lower down which makes for easier riding. Personally I'd leave it and see how you go. My first 1098 just had Termi end cans and the power delivery was very tetchy and a bit on or off. The 1098 I own now has a full system and is far more rideable and enjoyable.
