British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Well, polls have always been 100% accurate in the past (+/- 3%) so thats good enough for me.

  2. What I don’t understand is what qualifies the politicians for their posts.

A quick look, for example, tells me the current education secretary is Damian Hinds. Who apparently spent 18 years in the pubs / brewing and hotel industry before becoming a politician.

  3. Politicians are chosen the same way that trainers are chosen - that is to say, without any regard whatsoever to the subject matter they are "responsible" for.

  4. He was was in the wrong industry to be economical with the truth.

  5. Would it be too sensible to appoint politicians based on their experience.

So for example the education secretary may have been a teacher ?

  6. Disaster waiting to happen.

Never appoint an "expert" in a position of responsibility.

  7. Could be interesting though

  8. Ah, no. See Twitter for details.

  9. Have you noticed a trend for Senior Leaders In Schools Academy's to be from a PE background and secondly teachers have never left school so nominating teachers for anything would be a bad example.

  10. I don’t get Twitter.
Thought it was a thing for celebs to tell you how great they are

  11. Oh my, no, there's SO MUCH MORE than that going on there : o D

  12. Ok. I’ll try again :)

Secretary for transport - someone like a bus , train or lorry driver ?

If I’m right current one worked in media.

  13. Managers (eg politicians) manage people who know something about their jobs.

If you have experience doing a job, and working for a manager, you will realise that your manager having some expertise in the job is very much a mixed blessing.

    Does that help?

  14. I’d have to say, in my experience, having a manager that has done the job makes a big positive difference.
In nearly 30 years I have had a few managers, and the ones that stand out as good managers have all ‘worked their way up’

  15. Can I add, in my view, the PM should be the one who chooses the right people for the different positions.

  16. Reading between the lines here, I can only conclude that you have been very fortunate in your choice of employers.
The two main employers I have worked for have both dealt with some of their poor performers by promoting them out of their current job and into management. It has the effect of creating the impression, "those who can, do; those who can't, manage those who can". : o )

    No.

The PM chooses the right people to manage the people working under them in the various positions/departments/ministries.

In theory, and where there is no EU involvement, obviously : o D

  17. Have been at the same company for nearly 30 years. Perhaps it’s unique in that the managers that have worked their way up
Have all been good at their job and proved to be good at managing. We’ve had others that were not good.

I stand corrected on the second point. Though I still believe someone with experience of what they are managing is best

  18. he just sounds bitter to me. loz, you need to let it go.
I haven't seen or read anything about that.

What status have the UN given the leader of the SNP within the UK.

    TB
what, you dont see any positive story's about the separatists? funny that..
