Well 2019 started off OK as I begin to strip down my 1098. Once the panels were off things are coming to light. Plenty of electrical tape covering connectors. My curiosity getting the better of me I had to remove it. Looks like the regulator connector has been broken and the terminals pushed onto the connector that goes to the alternator and then a liberal application of Araldite or similar before covering with tape. So the questions for you knowledgeable folks out there are; 1) Can the regulator connector be repaired or are they not worth the effort 2) Was there ever a recall to replace 1098 regulators - are there numbers I can check to see if this was done 3) Has anyone moved the regulator; https://www.bikesportdevelopments.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=KT124 All advice appreciated.
That’s a mess! I replaced mine in Oct 2015 with a MOSFET type . If you do a search you may be able to find my posting about it. BSD bracket looks nice but one could easily make one for a lot less than they charge. EDIT: here’s the link to what I did https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/1098r-conked-out.38046/page-2#post-674245
Further work today has shown the connector on alternator side is unsalvageable. The regulator has no markings on it at all so I will look for a MOSFET one and then fit a new connector to the alternator lead and ensure it’s properly waterproofed - without resorting to Araldite.
Great news you sorted it out. I own a 916 that through looking on the forums and owners. It also had an issue where the alternator wires corrode. I have a blog and also changed to the Mosfat regulator rectifier. Its been on the bike quite a few years and with a charger. The battery lasted much longer than before with the standard set up. I hope you find some other mods or make good on yours. vinnychoff
