  1. Thanks for that Noobie. I see that the pannier mount is POA. I have sent them a mail, but I fear that if this isn't already in their catalogue, they may not be interested in considering it now.

Anyway, let's see. The good news is that they're only 10 miles from me.

    Thanks again for the lead.

  2. Plus one on Ventura if there is a suitable system available. Best luggage out there bar none. I travelled over to west coast of Ireland a few years back with a double bag setup on the back of my 748, it was rock solid and carried enough for a 10 day holiday. Photo in my album on here if you want to see what it looks like.

  3. I am wondering whether I shouldn't go a slightly different direction - has anyone tried the Jofama bags that are a kind of tail pack / pannier hybrid?

If it will take a tent and kip mat bungied on top (I've seen pics of this) then I could just about get away with 52 litres for my kind of travelling.

  5. Gavin is truly amazing. Just read the story of your build and some his other projects What an engineer! Creative and imaginative - and extremely persistent. Fascinating read.

  6. I wouldn't want to take Ventura stuff off road - unless you have the pack on the pillion seat. Otherwise it's a lot of weight hanging off the back, potentially bouncing around.

I looked at something like this for my Monster:

You could then potentially add a board to adapt it for mounting other hardware:

I think if it were me I'd stick with soft luggage in case of an off-road tip-over. You'd potentially end up damaging hard luggage and mountings. I had a crash a few years back and my soft panniers actually protected the side of the back. Sadly they did nothing for the front of the bike, which was buried in the back of an Audi...!

For a robust inexpensive brand I'd recommend Lomo. I've used one of their dry bags on a trip and it was great. Cheap and durable. I'll certainly be buying more of their gear.

  7. This is what you need they mount onto the frame and are secured with keys they have a hard back so no flexing. They were a special made item easily removed when needed.. D3A4FA9E-D96C-4F1A-9AD9-D103675D7568.png

  8. Davyd that looks like a really good solution. May I ask who made them?

In the meantime, I have gone for the Jofama bag. It looks good in the garage, I'll let you know how it works out when used a bit more meaningfully!

  9. My wifes answer to carrying luggage on a Monster 620. On our trip to Mugello MotoGP 2014.

  10. That's very funny!

I love that grey colour scheme by the way - not sure I've seen that before.

  11. If you like her 620 you should like her 821. She can now take her own luggage.

  12. Can you just get something made out of ally or similar the same dimensions as your soft panniers or slightly smaller and insert ?

  13. Yes, that's definitely a possibility. I've checked for potential mounting points and while I'd probably not be happy to use them for a full-strength pannier rack, if it's just a case of stabilising soft luggage with aluminium brackets, the available mounting points will be fine.

Anyway... can't wait to test the Jofama solution, just need some sunshine :)

  14. Cool, your bike looks ace by the way :upyeah:

  15. The Jofama thing looks really good. I'm quite a fan of soft luggage, and I've used throw-over panniers in the past. They're fine, but they tend to move about a bit, and require loads of strapping down to make sure they don't fall off, or fall into the back wheel. You then have to strap additional bags on top. So the idea of an all-in-one solution seems extremely sensible to me.

Post some pics and let us know how you get on.

  16. Bear in mind any subframe should take a full grown adult so surely some alli and a bit of luggage won’t break anything? They are steel

  17. Yes, I agree, the subframes are strong enough - it's more to do with how one mounts to it. For example, the two bolts under the tailpiece are (I'm at work so can't look at the bike) from memory M10s. If I used those, I think they would be the weak points.

  18. Why not weld or bolt a rail alongside the subframe? Or maybe a bar underneath that you can connect too?

You have a heavily modded bike, which I’m going to guess is a keeper, so providing it keeps in type for the changes you’ve made I’m sure it would look suitable :upyeah:
