Poor Obs...

  1. Youngsters have a different issue: risk assessment and experience. Old people have physical abilities and arrogance.

They have made the best harder, made it so that a couple of offences in the first two years and you get a ban and possible retest.

  2. I would. It'd be a fekkin hoot!

  3. Many accidents, not involving the 'elderly', happen at road junctions.
I believe the road accident stats still point to younger (male) generations representing the higher risk, partly because older drivers acknowledge their shortcomings and so tend not to drive, or drive less and more carefully, when its dark, raining or when the sun is low (which may, apparently, have been a factor in this case).
I find many old drivers a source of frustration because I think they drive too slow and are too cautious at junctions etc. and I wonder about whether tests should be taken/retaken...and then I consider whether that should be the case for all drivers and not just those over a certain age; I have to say I'd be happier (and safer) if the law focussed on taking unlicensed and uninsured drivers off the road.

  12. Odd that he was breathalyzed with a paper bag, the other driver a machine...

  13. Don't knock em. I was once breath tested years ago after a crash. I was pissed as fuck... Reeesult!

It was one of those open ended glass tubes full of crystals. Probably about as accurate as a paper bag...:astonished:

  17. My life changing accident 6 years ago involved a bus being driven by a 78 year old semi retired bus driver who having pulled his bus over to the left towards a bus stop while decelerating to stop at the bus stop ahead (my wrong assumption, but had no indicator on) then proceeded to turn right back, right, on himself (he had to swing left forat to make the turn as it was angled like this |\ relative to his direction of travel, like a U turn basically but ending up on another road). Now rather than check his mirrors or door window for any following traffic (I'd already slowed to let him out of the joining junction in first place after he clearly misjudged my speed on the derestricted carriageway so he would know I was behind) he just wellies it across the road. I'd left a lot of space and was sat in 3rd approaching a nice clear straight bit and as he moved left I accelerated to move past the stopping vehicle. BANG. Because he didn't stop and only pulled hard left to get angle before closing the gate on me I was eventually found to be at fault 100%. I paid dearly for that with spinal injury. Can't help thinking that his observations were low. He decided to stop driving buses after that I later found out. Shame it took a nasty to bring that realisation. I wonder if Phil will hopefully behind the wheel again?

  18. The idiot reporter in the Daily Mail is suggesting that Prince Philip may have mitigating circumstances because he supposedly said "The sun was in my eyes" or words to that effect.

So that's two idiots then - the reporter for writing such twaddle and the prince for carrying out a maneouvre when his vision was obstructed.

  19. Just heard the speed limit will be reduced on that stretch of road - only one day after the wobbly old git pulled out into another car that he didn't even see - ffs  so now does that mean he is safe to drive again
