Hi all, looking at a few listings for termi cans for my 848. some include air filter and race ecu, some are just selling the cans. my question is would the bike run ok with the cans only leaving the standard parts on? Or do I need the filter and ecu to go with it? I'm not looking for more hp just want them for the sound. cheers guys
I don't think you "need" the chip and filter but they come as a set when sold new and really should be fitted together. You'd really need to get a Power Commander if you buy the cans only and get it set up by a dyno shop. That's what I do anyway.
Where are you based? Used cans and a custom map, CJS Bristol, Motorapido Winchester 2 places that do them, it the best way imho and the map costs similar to buyng a PC + set up Note a used ECU may be mapped to the bike, therefore unless you have it flashed it wont work on yours as it doesnt talk to the dash
Converting your stock ECU to DP can be done (PM me if interested) Nothing will beat a custom set up though All the later bike ECU's are uncoded so will work with any bike. So if you pick up a second hand DP ECU it will work
What is 'later bikes' Chris? I know when I looked for my 08 848 you had to be careful with termis fitted to pre evo
Later bikes = 848/1098/1198/SF and HM All these are ideal as donors as the are virgin (the immo is in the dash for these bikes). I have successfully converted HM ECU's to an 848 EVO ECU. The ECU in my 1198S is an 848 one converted to DP. They also make great donors for earlier bikes (749/999 post 2004 etc) using the IAW5AM as they are virgin once flashed. Hope this helps
Great stuff!!!Thanks for all the info, mines an 09 plate 848. I reckon ill get the cans/filter/ecu and get italia moto in lincoln to fit it.At least I won't balls it up that way!!! Cheers guys
Mate you need the DP ECU... ChrisW flashed mine last week & I can say for fact its fantastic.... Standard bikes on standard cans run lean... REALLY lean to pass emissions at point of manufacture... Popping on a pair of straight through cans guarrantees the bike will run even leaner.. To the point of hot spots & eventual valve burn..... A DP ECU gives you the richer Air Fuel Ratio that copes well with the free flowing system....
Er no......what he needs is the fuel air ratio being correct for his given bike set up and rev range.....without this being checked on a dyno with whatever cpu is fitted its all a bit of a guess!
Standard ECU runs lean.... Putting on straights makes this worse.... Adding a DP ECU means a richer mix throughout the range so a safer bet than running a stock chip... As mentioned above nothing beats a custom map... But for what ChrisW charges & produces its a HELL of a lot cheaper than getting a PC fitted or grabbing an unknown DP ECU from flea bay.... I say what I see & running my open pipes with the reflashed chip I cannot complain... She was booked for a dyno today to confirm but the guy cancelled on me... All I know is she is a hell of a lot more responsive & runs cooler.... Yep its all about the AFR totally agree....
DP or Custom mapping. It's all about costs. Ideally the custom map should have your bike at peak performance. But, Ducati spent R&D money in developing the DP ECU's. They are a compromise as they are one size fits all. Personally, I run a DP ECU on my 1198S and it runs fine. I run a stock ECU with custom mapped PCIII on my 999 and that also runs fine. On the wish list is some dyno time for the 1198S and custom mapping.
