Evening all, bit suspicious that Wolverhampton Ducati didnt drop the oil at its pre sale 7000 mile service on my bike... So, I'm gonna put some in myself (was stamped as an oil change in the book & its too late to contest it with the dealer)... Book & sticker recommend Shell ultra 4.... What do you all think? Hell of a lot going on in that head & I only want the best in there..... Always used MOTUL fully synth in the past but that was on jap bikes....
A lot of guys use MOTUL. My dealer, moto rapido use it too. not sure if I read somewhere that there could be some issues with the clutch if you switch from semi to fully synth or visa versa. Someone with more knowledge than me will probably be along to tell me I'm talking bollocks! p.s. why do you suspect they didn't drop the oil?
Ducati have just decided that rather than Shell ultra 10-40 you should run 15-50.. So I now run Shell Ultra 15-50 fully synthetic
I use Motul 7100 full synth as my regular service oil with no problems at all. No issues with the wet clutches either. 300v is the next step up from that and is IMO is the best out there, if a bit pricey.
Oh don't worry I got some 10-40 in too and then though....well....Ducati must know what's best....or you'd think so....lol
I've only done 800 mile since then & when I swapped over the lower black fairing to full red I noticed the oil filter had a fair bit of residue around it... No leak or anything but you know? just looked like it had done a few miles.. Also the colour of the oil itself is black.. Now I know on my old R6 using Motul 7100 it kept its colour for 2k.... It was the big service too... bit worried the belts didnt get swapped over either.. I need to have a proper look at those this week..
300v seems to be getting a few votes here... I'm going to look into it... On the clutch slip issue from changing from semi to fully I guess thats a bloody lottery... You'd hope at least Ultra 4 fully synth has been used.... full dealer history and all that.... Probably cooking oil in there...
You'd hope so... Although I think so of the recommendations may be based on manufacturer back handers haha.. I work for VW AUDI & I know how these things go haha...
Good to know mate... tolerences in the testeretta are daft, be nice peace of mind to know its got the best oil in her... My car?? Couldnt give a toss hehe...
Any views on Ducati's change to 15-50 (for late models) Chris? I know a few Ducati (long time) techs who have always said 15-50. No ones given a reason for the change...
2 reasons I think Arthur, 15w sticks better to components enabling more protection on cold start up, and 50w works better at higher temperatures not breaking down as easily (increased sheer test strengths) All good.
I wasn't aware of it. Plus I've got 8 litres of Shell Ultra 10-40 sat in my garage for the next change
I was lucky and passed mine back, funny thing is I keep drums of 10-40 for my customers but buy Shell Ultra just for my 848 then had to swap it again for 15-50 also Shell only seem to supply it in drums, 1l or 2l cans....? No 4l? God knows why...
