  1. Just purchased a 1/2 inch drive cordless impact gun for removal of rear wheel nut but not sure what type socket is best to use, impact socket, six sided ect,i am confused.com.Also could you confirm they are 41 and 46mm (848)?
    Cheers

  2. same as the 748 -998 models

you are fine with a 12 point one.......a six point would be stronger (more surface area against the nut) an impact socket would be more heavy duty...

the most important bit on the rear wheel nut sockets is the lead edge of the socket because the nut is not that wide you need it to be able to get the meat of the socket fully flush over the nut....some have their sockets turned back a little on a lathe..

You may need to get 3/4 drive sockets with a 1/2 to 3/4 adaptor....

  3. No impact socket will be made of ali....they are generally black finish and 6 point, but always steel. You'd be better off getting a quality steel one than Ali if it's going anywhere near a rattle gun. I've busted ali ones with a breaker bar....
Try a tooling stockist, rather than a "bike trader". Look up Kennedy tools. I've had a pair of their sockets, 41 and 46mm for over 10 years on the air gun.....and they're not impact ones either. You may need a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter as well.
If you're stuck, give me a shout as they have a depot just 'round the corner from me.
