  3. You were saying;) unfortunately italy is a very soft side to play against,so not fair competition in my book.
The most important match for england should have been with wales two weeks ago and we lost:confused:

  4. Italy showed dogged determination, but kept making errors that gifted easy trys to England.

‘In sport, a whitewash is a game or series in which the losing person or team fails to score. A whitewash may be a single game where the loser fails to score any points or goals, or a series where the loser fails to win a game.‘

It can’t be a whitewash when they’ve scored.

Similarly, if Ireland and England both win next weekend, England could win the championship, but not a Grand Slam.

  5. At least the Irish U20 side have won the championship :). First time ever I believe. If they beat Wales U20 next weekend then they’ve got the Grand Slam as well. Good on yer lads:upyeah:

  9. Italy went onto the pitch in Twickenham as underdogs. They played well in part, but were outclassed by England who made the most of Italy’s errors: very much pulling them apart like a cheap suit.

The small pool of International Class players who can play for Italy still restricts them.

In Wales some still blame Margaret Thatcher for a decline in Welsh Rugby.
She abolished Grammar Schools which played rugby. The Comp’s played soccer.
Without junior rugby the national teams had very restricted pools from which to select.

  13. I beg to differ re the grammar schools. As a product of the grammar school system and actually being in one at the time, it was the labour govt of 1974-79 which abolished them. Well nearly all. Some, like mine survived.

Maggie gets blamed for a lot of things but not this one.

That being said, it’s true, the demise of grammar schools depleted the rugby playing ranks across the entire UK for a few years afterwards. We NEVER played football/soccer at our school. It was rugby only, and I’m very glad for it, otherwise we’d have turned out a bunch of sissies who pluck their eyebrows and wax their chests ! :(

    Some think otherwise.

And I went from Grammar lower sixth to Incomprehensible Upper Sixth.

  17. Hmm, I’ll have to look into that bald statement thrown into the middle of that article. Certainly it was the Labour Govt of 74-79 first initiated the removal of selection with their egalitarian socialist principles. At the time of the article it was another Labour Govt that was trying to do away with the last vestiges of selection. But.....we digress. To get the thread back on track.

COME ON IRELAND :upyeah::upyeah::upyeah: let’s best the French today and get a BP.

  18. MON THE FRENCH!
    :D

  19. We are agreed there, though I’m looking forward to Wales beating you in Cardiff next weekend!
