I'm going on my first bike tour soon! I'm doing a trip to the Picos mountains in Spain (from the UK) on my 848. I want to put together a basic toolkit to take with me. I'm CRAP mechanically speaking but there will be others with me who will know what they are doing. I don't want to rely on them for tools though. Hope you guys can let me know what to take in my tool roll for the 848. Cheers, Dub.
Definitely take a puncture repair kit. The type with rubber straws that push in from the outside. Wemoto do them for a good price and they work well. Also chain adjusting tool and Allen keys for fairing fixings.
Take some spare nuts n bolts too in a zip bag. Things rattle off, like gear linkages. Also some thread lock. I usually take my 916 toolkit which is enhanced with some 8-12mm spanners, pliers and allen keys. Oh and zip ties. Plus an AA Gold membership card. 916 tool kit has c spanner etc.
Thought I’d resurrect this thread, given recent posts about tools people carry. This is my ‘I can fix this’ touring tool kit (a roll of electrician’s tape and gaffer tape didn’t fit on the microfibre towel ). After seeing a presentation given by a motorcycling Ambulance Service Paramedic, I also carry a small first responder kit*. Andy * first responder kit includes, 2 x foil survival blankets, sterile gloves, burn gel, saline solution ampules, antiseptic wipes, plasters, a couple of wound pads and a bandage wrap all of which fits in the deeper sized takeaway container.
That just about covers it. The rear wheel nut shown in the 2nd pic is an alloy one for my MV, now replaced with steel Laser one for the 1260MTS.
