748 Front Fairing Fixings

  1. Hello all,

I decided to get my bike to a mint condition :) hopefully and started to take all of the fairing off. However got a bit stuck with the front fairing as one of the bolt rusted away! So after a long time finally I managed to remove it but now I am thinking if there is any better replacement/solution to attach the front fairing to avoid this happening again. Any ideas guys?

    cheers,
    tom

  2. I'm confused as the 748/916 has the easiest fairing bracket system known to mankind  pictures:thinkingface:

  3. It’s probably the bolts that’s hold the front fairing to the headlight bucket / Airtubes they can cause problems

  4. I am talking about the fixing that is mounted in a rubber sleeve however all the water gets in from the top and completely rusted that fixing. New one attached now but it will not stop the problem. So anyone replaced those with something else?

  7. I cannot find anything else on eBay so where can I find those stainless steel options, chizel?

  9. I always use stainless bolts to fix into the rubber well-nuts. Never had a problem since (last 20 years).

  10. it seems that I have to stick to genuine rubber nut and go for a stainless bolt instead. thanks to all for your tips :upyeah:

  12. Also, put copper grease on the thread and don’t over tighten the bolts.

  13. I bought a kit from the states offa eBay a few years back. Can't remember the seller sorry.

  14. The kit I bought was 120 piece 748 bolt kit that had these included and was about £40 shipped but can't find any more which is a shame...

  16. Looks like it’s a base model? If so and the fairings are bolt on then you might consider getting dzus fasteners instead, as would have been fitted to the higher spec models.

    Cheers
