  1. ok, so im looking for new tyres for my 916. ive used power pures on my old MV and oved them..ideally i want good, used ex race tyres. the wheels on the bike are Magnesium Marchesini's..im guessing that the rear is a 6", when i measure it across its significantly wider than this because i dont know exactly where the measurements are taken from. At the moment its got a 190/50/17 fitted and its always had a rear 190. The trouble om having is that this size is virtually impossible to obtain in Racetec/Supercorsa/Powerpure..if i can even find a 190 it is invariably a 55 side wall..most 180's (which i think may be stretched a little bit over the width of the rim) are 55's but most in the Racetecs are 60...
What are the implications of running the taller sidewall (190/55) as opposed to the standard 190/50? Is fitting a 180 to the Marchesini wheel too small? i know that the it is common to fit this size to the 748/916 on standard wheels, and even on the later alloy marchesini which is very similar in appearance to the magnesium wheel, although not identical as you probably know...im not certain that the widths of the alloy version would even be the same as the mag option.
Ive been looking for sometime but obtaining a 190/50 seems nigh on impossible.

  2. If it is a 6" rim, then 190 is the correct width. A 180 will be stretched as you mentioned. If it part worns you're after then you'll struggle. 190/50 is by no means a common size anymore. The 55 profile has taken its place.
you can run a 55, I have one on my 748 at the moment. Depending on gearing/chain length and hence position of the hub, you may not be able to run a hugger. What the 55 does is lift the reara bit, not much, but will have the effect of affecting the turn in a little. It'll be quicker. If its too much, wind the ride height down a few mm.
you can double check rim size by looking for it cast into the wheel or measure across the inside of the bead seats.

  3. nice one neil
    :upyeah:

  4. Had a look thru the catalogues this morning and Pirelli/Metzler don't seem to cover the 190/50 in any of the track tyres now. One supplier has Supercorsa BSB in but short supply.
Michelin have Pure and One listed, but I don't know for how long.
Might be time to move to 55 and see how the bike feels and how it fits....

  5. ive bought a pair of Metzeler Racetecs 190/55's so i'll see how i get on with them..fingers crossed they wont interfere with the hugger.

  6. I run a 195/65 on the track and the hugger is fine.

  7. phew thats a relief...i had to raise my hugger when i replaced the rear for an identical Bridgestone...no idea why, as the previous Bridgestone caused no problems...
Do you think the 916 will respond well to the Racetecs?
