Thinking of getting a Streetfight. Not sure to go for the 848 or 1098. I have owned a Superduke which i thought was fantastic but not sure to get another one, but i dont like reliving the past, not much hope of getting the new one. I currently riding an SP2 which was on my wish list as is a Ducati. Not had a chance to test ride either yet. Used to riding 1000 v twins so wondering if i would miss the extra grunt if i got the 848. Peoples opinions would be great, Thanks:smile:
A bit like choosing between a blonde or a brunette... Enjoy test riding them... Ps, don't forget red's are faster...
Test ride a baldie AND a redhead?? I've done a redhead. Where will I find a baldie chick? Or are we talking Britney Spears here?
Not tried 848. Thought 1098 was overly rabid, but if you want the "pitbull on a leash" feeling, why not?
848 streetfighter is the one to go for ,,, much better handling and comfort power is more balanced than the big one .
I don't think you need more than the 848 for social riding in the UK, it has plenty enough. If you get the bigger bike, you won't use the extra. Same applies for anyone with a Panigale who doesn't track it or pretty much any bike with over 150bhp and a sports-oriented focus. I wouldn't criticise, I might well swap my 848 for a Panigale-engined SF in the future if such a bike is ever made; I just know I'd be buying that for the what is was as opposed to what I actually needed.
Where did the "much better handling" come from? Ridden a 1098SFS on the road and track? I have ridden both and this statemant in not true!
there is a case for comfort being better, the SF848 has some tweaks over the SF1098 that supposedly make comfort better. I would think handling is so subjective and down to rider skills and setup that it is harder to judge.
As a matter of interest, why would the handling of the small SF be any different to the bigger SF? Are there any differences apart from the size of the motor?
plenty of ink on the subject ride them both and make your own mind up, no doubt it will differ from the lady next to you The most obvious difference between the two 2012 Streetfighter models is engine displacement. Whereas the Streetfighter S utilizes Ducati’s 1099cc L-Twin cylinder engine producing a claimed 155 hp and 89 ft.-lb. of torque at 9500 rpm, the new Fighter is powered by an 848cc Twin outputing a claimed 132 hp and 69 ft.-lb. of torque at 10,000 and 9500 rpm, respectively. Producing its peak horsepower 500 rpm higher in the rev range and with a compression ratio of 13.2:1, compared to the S’s 12.5:1, the new SF is a little more high-strung than the larger-displacement model. The bigger Streetfighter S model, in addition to the increased power of the larger engine, boasts an Ohlins fork whereas the 848’s front legs are of the Marzocchi variety. Both suspension components are fully adjustable and measure 43mm in diameter. The 848’s front end, however, is steeper than the S with 24.5 degrees of rake compared to 25.6 degrees on the S model. The 848 also has less trail than the S, 103mm vs 114mm, respectively, but the wheelbase of both bikes remains identical at 58.1 inches. Other significant differences of the 848 SF include a wet rather than dry clutch and new 10-spoke wheels instead of the five-spokers on the S. The tapered aluminum handlebars of the 848 are also 20mm higher than those of the S model. The high seat height of the S, 33 inches, carries over to the new 848, as do the slippery footpegs blah blah blah
Hopefully going to On Yer Bike open day tomorrow so i will throw a leg over them and have a good look close up. Weather supposed to be rubbish so think i'll give a test ride a miss and wait a little till the big ball of fire shows in the sky:smile:
