As I continue with refurbishing the 748R I need to decide what to do about these wheels. The picture shows the rear after cleaning and polishing. There are small scratches and many chips around the rim. I am considering the wheels painted as in the second photo so that they present as new (I also think the black provides a better contrast against the yellow of the fairings). Am I overlooking any other options with these wheels to eliminate the faults that does not cost a fortune? Leaving as is is not an option. TIA.
The 748R OE Marchesini wheels were grey. If the bike is your keeper, then do what you feel is aesthetically pleasing. If it’s not, IMO, keep them grey. Andy
It definitely is my keeper. However, I have a slight dilemma in the philosophy I have adhered to so far in doing a "makeover" (uuurrghhh) of the bike is that every OEM part replaced by aftermarket gets cleaned up, wrapped and stored. Simply so that once i've had my fun i can return the bike to original spec. In an ideal world I would have these wheels "recoated" to original appearance, store them and buy aftermarket rims. But it seems that unless you are willing to shell out silly amounts of money there aren't any I have come across.
If I was planning to keep a bike a long time I'd get them powdercoated the colour I liked best. If you need to to have them redone in five years to get a better sale price for the bike its not a huge cost spread over the time...
