Did Zvmx Chain Link Won't Fit Did Zvmx Chain

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Old rider, Apr 30, 2019.

  1. I have ground the old chain and pushed the pin out, I have put the new chain in place but the new chain link won't fit in the new chain.
I had to shorten the new chain, so have a pin from it which measures 5.2 mm. The pins in the new link measure 5.4 mm
Both chain and link are supposedly DID 525 ZVMX
The chain is a nearly new one I bought from a forum member and the link came from ebay.
I'm guessing one of them isn't kosher but how do I tell which one??

  2. Get the chain link from either 24MX or ebayer (also website) arracing-uk. Word to the wise the 24mx ones are not necessarily gold.

Who did you get it off from ebay?

  3. arracing

  4. That is bizarre, give them a ring'

  5. Good idea

  6. 0.2mm difference? Think there is much more play between the pin and rollers.
Should really work if both are 525ZVMX and rivet link.

  7. 0.2mm is only 8 thou, hardly anything. Are the pins of a new rivet link not slightly longer to allow for the head to be peened?

  8. There should be id markings on the side plates of both the chain and the link. From memory, I think there may have been ZVMX and then ZVMX2 chain??? Not sure....... other than size, chains are a nightmare, even from the same manufacturer when trying to source or match up joining links.

  9. It says 525 ERV on the link plates and 525 ZVMX on the box

  10. The link packaging says 525 VMX - ZJ

  11. Odd, because DID don't list a 525ERV on their website. Maximum size for an ERV is 520.

  12. You posted at the same time but as me but it looks like you are none the wiser. Is it the wrong link but the right packaging?

  13. There is another 'tube' between pin and roller. It's this tube the pins won't fit in. The pin I took out to shorten the link will.

I may be able to press it in by force but it doesn't just slide in as it should.

  14. The part numbers on the box lead to a far-eastern website iirc

  15. Got you. I was thinking length of pin not the diameter (bang head). There may be wear on the old pin but 0.2mm? Sounds too big to me.

  16. It's more like 0.25 but seems the difference between a sliding fit and an interference fit

  17. The old pin is not really old, the chain was allegedly as new and is cosmetically good, you can see signs of wear on the old (original?) chain but not on the DID.

  18. Any help in identifying what you have?

  19. I have a ZVM-X on the shelf ready to fit. Box says ZVM-X, links say ZVM-X, connecting link says ZVM-X.

  20. Looks like the racing chain at the top, presumably an earlier version of the ERV3
